Since it's not an official comment, I'm not sure if I'll believe that, especially after the mistaken "Windows and OS X" line. However considering this is Aspyr we're talking about I am kinda expecting it.

Typical from Aspyr, Star Wars was ported to Linux but never made available to GOG. I have no sympathy towards the dev either, they probably knew this would happen yet still chose to discriminate GOG users

I kind of understood it when older games that had been only ported by Aspyr (or Feral) didn't get their Mac or Linux versions here, as it isn't supposedly possible to discriminate sales by OS on GOG (and thus pay the porting company accordingly). But in this case Aspyr is the fucking publisher, just like it was for Layers of Fear, which does have Mac and Linux versions here! Bullshit.

I wondered the same thing too, Layers of Fear however uses Unity not UE4 so they may have done the port themselves (and was probably far easier) to bring it over to Mac/Linux.

I agree. Aspyr are becoming increasingly irritating. They failed to release KoTOR 2 on GOG for Linux, despite explicit statements that they are working on it. And their typical lack of explanation why they can't is only making it worse.
If GOG wanted to do that, they could. Not for sales, but for downloads. They can count downloads per OS, and have a deal with Aspyr to pay only for Linux ones for example. I don't see any technical issue with it. But may be there are other tings involved (privacy regulations or what not). But I'm not sure why for example it would work for Valve, and not for GOG.

For all we know, Valve counts it according to the platform of purchase, or the one with most minutes played after 7 days.

I agree GOG could do it according to downloads, but what if I'm a compulsive completionist and I download all the installers: Windows, Mac, and Linux? Will my purchase count as 1/3 Windows, 1/3 Mac, and 1/3 Linux? Would I have to download it twice for Linux in order to make sure it counts as a Linux sale?

It's sad, but DRM/client-dependence comes in handy for things like these.

That's up to those who define it. They can count it as all platforms and for example split according to default distribution (bigger platform gets bigger cut) or as you said, split evenly. They can also do it like Humble Bundle do, and ask the user to indicate intended platform during purchase explicitly. And they can use user agent during purchase as the last resort, especially if user didn't download the game at all.

No idea, but I don't see this as a blocker for such kind of deal.

tbh I think the business model from Aspyr is not really clever. The product is explicitly sold for all platforms. If you have to devise some weird methodology to "spy" how the user actually uses the product in order to get your money, that's rather .. uh stupid.
