So are you telling me that "the most hatred" (139 votes to delete it) thread ever wasn´t voted as spam enough to be deleted?
Interesting.
Telika: What happened is EXACTLY what I describe in that "ad hominem". In other environments (far far far, far away from gamergaters), LGBT can be discussed and even studied. But here, it was explicitely an "are you for or against LGBT" discussion.
These discussions are gone frtom the GOG forum. Because you cannot have them without breaking the Code of Conduct. For the reason I illustrated. Half of this "debate" is the expression of precisely what isn't tolerated on the forums anymore. You can swap LGBT with skin colors or religious identity, it's the same situation.
zeogold: Basically this. You can't discuss anything in here without it turning into an "us vs them" thing.
YaTEdiGo: So games are also far far away from politics? and from being "creepy"? What about Silent Hill series?
zeogold: It's not the discussion about politics that's the problem, it's the amount of morons here who can't discuss it like rational human beings and turn the whole thread into a battle royale.
I think you misunderstood the "creepy" part.
YaTEdiGo: So do you guys believe is better to close threads that simply debate even the "troll"? this is what many name an "echo chamber" and is far to be healthy.
zeogold: It would be better to debate...if there was actual debate. There's a difference between "you're wrong and here's why" and "UP YOURS! YOU'RE A NAZI PIG!"
And yes, it's always a bad idea to respond to trolls, as their entire goal is often just to flamebait and instigate such mudflinging.
So far as your "echo chamber" argument, consider for a moment how bad this looks for GOG as a company. They're not trying to be some "bastion of free speech" or whatever. There are literally hundreds if not thousands of other forums out there with no moderation. What they are is a company with a reputation to try to cultivate/uphold. How does it look for a newbie to come on here and the first thread they see is a political flamewar? It's bad enough that we ALREADY have a reputation as a snakepit for most people who know of us.
YaTEdiGo: Go on, open your own thread about cockroaches, I bet if people "break" the rules there, they will not close the thread but as much, ban some users.
zeogold: You have to consider some factors here:
1) Yes, they'd ban users rather than close the thread because they'd likely nip it in the bud. By the time any moderation on GOG had arrived, the #GG thread had been a complete mess for months if not years.
2) Apparently, GOG had somehow over the years LOST the ability to ban people from the forum without removing access to their game library. Meaning they were essentially powerless to ban anybody. At the time that fables22 stepped up to the plate, they were still in this state and she wanted to take action on the forum ASAP to show that she at least had some kind of power. Considering that the #GG thread was what people clamored most over, it made sense to close it, something that had immediate and visible effects.
3) Fables was attempting to do a "fresh start" thing, as in, not retroactively banning people for stuff they did in the past. Therefore, by these very rules, she couldn't ban anybody from #GG until they actually trolled again. It was better to just close the thread and take away their breeding ground than to wait for them to resurface. Yes of course, at seems nobody may be even in the "middle" of the equation not even as a COMPANY or as a EMPLOYEE it need to be "us vs them" or you are out of "reputation". I am sorry but this is not a good and healthy environment for anybody unless it seems we all need to have, and more important BEHAVE under the main establishment of what is "politically correct" in order to save my reputation. Pretty WRONG, and time will tell is going to be even worse. Hope you will remind where it started.

So if a post is reported several times as Spam is deleted? It´s difficult to believe it works like this, would not be the previous thread we talking about deleted because of this long time ago?
Yes. It really does work like that.
Not sure what previous thread you mean.

Edit: Oh, I see what you're saying, I think. You seem to be assuming they're taking political sides? I don't think they're doing that, although it's technically within their rights to do so and a lot of companies do.
More like they're trying to shut up all the trolling, which that thread was a huge source of. It's the same reason they close so many political threads, for the ones that weren't closed down by the OP themselves. Even I had to close down a thread or two because it got out of hand.
And again, on top of that, this is a company forum, not some user-run random sort of thing. I honestly think that GOG's original intention was to have this place like the subforums look - purely about video game chatter, much like the CDPR forums. That would probably even be better for them as a company.
She did, yes. Also banned quite a few people, too. According to her, there was a period of time she was banning like 2-3 people a day or something. I know Tauto and Kleetus got a couple temp-bans as well, and ciomalau got a perma-ban.
Let me see if I can find some links to those threads.
Edit: Here's one of them:
https://www.gog.com/forum/general/good_luck_america/post1054
And another:
https://www.gog.com/forum/general/it_is_time_to_pay_attention_infowars/post2053
This one was closed, but before Fables showed up:

This one was due to the OP wanting it closed:
https://www.gog.com/forum/general/europe_is_burning_the_terrorism_thread/post824
This is the one I ended up closing:

Yes, I didn´t check the thread too often, but still I did it several times, and even in some moments people were discussing I never seen ANYTHING really out of the rules. (Even new ones)
Of course they are taking political sides, or better said, avoiding the most annoying political sides were 139 votes are enough to close a Thread. Is their right? Yes of course, as it is my right to usually buy games or counsel my friends to buy games in the less political platforms. Problem is to allow things for long time, and suddenly came with the Damocles Sword. Is simply WRONG.
Purely about the videogame chatting means ignore most part of other threads, threads are absolutely words, and I didn´t seen anyone been killed by words. Most part of the closed threads were very interesting in their beginnings, I definitively believe is people who should be ban, and not threads lock.
I should read more carefully all the pages on the links you posted to me, thanks for the info I am sorry that I don´t have the time to read the whole threads, I just read one or two comments per every 2 or 3 pages, and yes I still think is people and not threads who should be ban. But this is GOG rules or Admin rules. So their house, their rules. I don´t longer care, but I found the whole thing really wrong.
