A jRPG is usually more like an interactive story where you follow the story elements towards the end of the narrative rather then having control the decide the narrative yourself.
The fact that we've seen the same tired tropes since Final Fantasy IV is a bit of an issue.

OK, I managed to stay away for a whole day but I just can't. The setup is too good. So the answer is really this:
While most western RPGs are classics, most JRPGs are just not classy.

I have but I havent beaten many :) I usually have a greater chance in managing to beat a western rpg then a Jrpg. I only beat like 5 Jrpgs which isnt a lot as there are literally 1000s on pc. If you count winter wolves jrpgs then I beat 8 ;)
