Great game thank you so much!
One less from the wishlist. Although I didn't like this game when I first tried it out a couple of years ago, recently I have decided to give it another try.
THX Microids / GOG
Thanks GOG! ^_^
Thanks GOG.

Had a good time with this game on PS2. Glad to get a PC copy.

Now if I can just find that XIII comic to read again!
Thanks again GOG you beautiful beast.
Bit of a cult classic, this one. Thanks GOG. I had this back on the Xbox and it was a lot of fun. Time to check out those extra multiplayer modes they added to the PC version.
Thank you for this classic shooter!

My earlier comments aside, this is a good game....with some a more unique art style(especially when it came out), nice voice acting, etc. In short, if one likes such themes/plots/genres there's a good chance one will enjoy this game.
(*possible semi spoilers* the only negatives[imo] are that it has checkpoint saves, has some stealth sections, and ends on a cliffhanger *end spoilers*)

Breja: This guy gets it! I don't want GOG to go back to being the way it was when I recommended it to all my friends, I don't want it to maintain a truly DRM-free policy, I don't want it to reject chinese censorship, I don't want it to communicate well with the user base, I don't want features like the GOG mixes back and I don't want them to lay off the marketing spam already - I actually want them to fuck up something more so that I can complain :D

I have discussed all the issues I have with GOG, at length, in detail, multiple times. But hey, it's easier to say I don't.

Also, I'm very curious in what way I disrespected you guys by saying that I don't want GOG's spam :D I wasn't addressing any user at all, and still was told to GTFO. I guess some fanboys take anything said against GOG very personaly :D

wolfsite: Swearing, talking down to people, using sarcasm to dismiss someone else's viewpoint or comment, calling people DRM supporters just because they are not as mad as you are.
Oww ,hey you, scarecrow -it's enough -no one gave you a judge badge ya know ....and you aren't any Jesse James either ...hush now ...let people speak their mind ,will ya houdini

B1tF1ghter: I would like to know who at your HQ thinks it is not only morally ok but also LEGALLY fine to openly LIE in the forum announcement (a type of PR announcement by ALL MEANS, ergo subject to customer protection as well as company disclosure laws).
"The banner" clearly states that clicking it means agreeing to receive your marketing materials. It's clearly a requirement. There doesn't seem to be any way around it to get to the giveaway short of asking someone else to give you their key.
So, to be precise, the information from the banner should be repeated in this forum announcement. Otherwise this is just plain deception and it's kind of illegal.

pkk234: Just opt out right after through settings?

e: I will agree it's an annoying change. I thought naively it was a one time thing, whenever it happened the first time.
avatar
B1tF1ghter: And since when is opting out AFTER the fact a "solution" by ANY standards?
So then what?
Any data they MAY collect during that time is theirs to keep?
Is that what you're saying?
Because their marketing emails do include trackers. Their website contains ton of them (and it's fair to assume it crossreferences email-account with email-agreed-to-marketing databases when doing website telemetry).
So they definitely do collect SOME data when sending those emails even in just mere seconds between opt-in and opt-out.

avatar
XYCat: Maybe it's time to download all the installers for everything you bought here and delete your gog account.
avatar
B1tF1ghter: Maybe it's time to stop being ignorant and acknowledge that things should be opt-in instead of opt-out and the amount of data they gather differs depending on if you opted in or not.

avatar
Breja: How dare I criticise the almighty stupor mundi that is GOG!
avatar
B1tF1ghter: Oh hey Breja /s
Yes another reunite under yet another controversial (as in anything that goes against "the precious GOG" is considered so apparently) move on GOG's part.

avatar
vv221: Well, I understand you with no difficulty at all.
avatar
B1tF1ghter: Also using a service or playing a game (say free2play) doesn't warrant being blindly loyal and ignoring it's flaws.
Life isn't about everything or nothing, black or white, cheesecake or diet.

avatar
Breja: Also, I'm very curious in what way I disrespected you guys by saying that I don't want GOG's spam :D I wasn't addressing any user at all, and still was told to GTFO. I guess some fanboys take anything said against GOG very personaly :D
avatar
B1tF1ghter: *In Elliot Carver's voice*: "Touché"

avatar
mad_crease: I do find it very sad that people who say they hate something so bad, still take the time to display their anger over the option to download a "free" game. It would have been easier to just not click the link and ignore it completely.
avatar
B1tF1ghter: Why yes, it's far easier for most to ignore the issue until it affects them personally.

avatar
mad_crease: If you're going to discuss aspects of the game, by all means drop your dis-satisfaction or enjoyment. Other people here are not "enemies". We all are just gamers trying to enjoy what little pleasures we can find in life.
avatar
B1tF1ghter: With all due respect but you are not the one to dictate what can and cannot be said in this thread.
Also the people in question don't have an issue with the game itself.

avatar
mad_crease: This is a game. You can chose to get it for "free" or elect to have nothing to do with it. It's a simple choice and doesn't need arguments, berating, or insults.
avatar
B1tF1ghter: It's not free. You are just paying with things different than money (in this case giving away some of your privacy, as well as time required to dump marketing emails to bin).

avatar
mad_crease: Just like all the info-stealing apps on your smart devices, all the web sites you go to, all the info-sites we log into, even the maps and location ID we have elected to give companies permission to use. Ever use an online service? You gave up some of your rights.
avatar
B1tF1ghter: Speak for yourself. The very fact that there are people here voicing their discontent means that at least some of them don't accept how things stand and perhaps they do take measures to not be subject to corresponding privacy violations.

avatar
mad_crease: We live in a crazy world where people do things that bring them misery, just to display contempt or anger. We have a choice to chose to add the game or not.
avatar
B1tF1ghter: We live in a crazy world where people let sh*t slide because it's easier for them to not get out of their comfort zones and they will refuse to acknowledge the problem until it's too late and it affects them too.
Some people even have the nerve to crucify those who voice their concerns about the issues in question.

avatar
firstpastthepost: I think you have every right to complain about things you dislike and many of the things I’ve seen you complain about are valid. A lot of the things I’ve seen you complain about seem to be minor or not really issues. This is a perfect example of that. Asking you to sign up for a newsletter to get something free isn’t a onerous or terrible practice. It’s a marketing strategy that’s easy for you to game. Demanding that you get free stuff only on your own terms is pretty entitled. I’m not trying to be insulting or say you shouldn’t speak your mind. I just don’t understand your motivation.
avatar
B1tF1ghter: One man's issue is another man's jam. Just because YOU don't see something as a problem does NOT mean it cannot BE one.

avatar
Breja: "delete your account"
avatar
B1tF1ghter: By the way, isn't this a terribly convenient way of thinking for coprorate overlords?
After all at that point all the fuss gets shoved under the carped and "nobody knows" and "everybody is happy" /s

avatar
tfishell: there are already several threads dedicated to criticizing GOG, people can rant in there
avatar
B1tF1ghter: Ah yes, it would be very convenient to contain all constructive criticism in prelude of nuk*ng the thread to erase all public evidence of discontent wouldn't it?
But of course /s
Gog your judgement day is coming - 6 months unfair ban for no reason ... need more posts like this fella above -i wonder what peeps will have to say about your doing GOG -slowly but surely ,the sand is dropping upside down...but hey don't mind me ...you are the "best" company "drmfree" on market isn't it? with exception it isn't drm free anymore -but you honest Gog wouldn't lie to people ,would you... more to come in near future .over and out
Thanks Microids & GOG

Zadalon: Thanks Gog for the giveaway! Should we follow the instructions in the first review are they still valid?
The most recent information is in the dedicated forum for the game:

https://www.gog.com/forum/xiii#1617122050
NICE!
Just for completion, as the information is kind of spread around in parts.

I recommend to install the latest patch: https://www.moddb.com/games/xiii/downloads/xiii-all-in-one-installer

This not only tweaks certain settings that you would have done manually anyways, it also fixes a few underlying issues (e.g. the sloppy menu mouse) and it unlocks multiplayer and adds a bit more variety there through the use of mutators.

To effectively play multiplayer, I suggest joining the friendly XIII community on the InsideXIII Discord.
We have eight dedicated servers running 24/7 for everyone to use (Germany, Czechia, US), or you just chill around with other folks to talk about any XIII title and rant about the remake.

There will be a follow-up patch update that adds HD textures and improves the player view regarding weapons happen to show too large on widescreen + high FOV. There's a public beta version addressing these issues, also available only on the InsideXIII Discord.

Preview patched weapon view for widescreen
