PMIK: What we backers need to start demanding is a detailed breakdown of where the funds are expected to go. Many KS projects have done this already. If someone is asking for $30,000 to make it, where did they get that number from? Why do you need that much? etc. etc.
Just like a publisher would? :D There are reasons why publishers are still a huge part of making a video game, and having the purse strings / ability to enforce good business decisions is a big part of that. And yeah, this is not news to anyone who actually thinks about projects they back. I've backed some pretty random projects, but always from people who looked and sounded like they knew what they were doing. The most frustrating one was a project where an unexpected technical issue cropped up *after* results were shipped, and even then the project person shipped out replacements and stuff. You just have to pick the projects carefully.
