The 70's brought on the birth and proliferation of metal and prog, with some really great bands in this genre during the decade (in fact it's probably the only great decade for prog rock whatsoever), krautrock, space rock, as well as darker psych rock, so that's cool. And MELLOTRONS! :D
Still, don't y'all be shit-talking disco. Italo-disco is THE. SHIT. Hi-NRG and space disco also rule. Too bad those didn't really take off until the 80's, but here's some awesome stuff from the 70's, starting off with Giorgio "Motherfucking" Moroder:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_ukfGAd8T4 It's too bad this didn't inspire a sexy, 70's musical film adaptation of The Island of Dr. Moreau (or at the very least be the title track for Night of the Lepus), but we can all dream, can't we? In the meantime you can crank this up on infinite loop while playing A Machine for Pigs for TWICE the awesome:

know you LOVE it. Denial, it's not just a death metal band in South Carolina! (or a, uh, death metal band from Mexico, THESE PHRASES DON'T WORK IN WRITTEN FORM):
