I don't know all that much about Brazilian pop culture but I'm eager to learn. I'm especially curious about the Brazilian comic and graphic novel scene, but I hardly know any writers and works from Brazil, I just recently discovered Gabriel Bá and Fabio Moon through their English-language work "Daytripper" and read about André Diniz ("Morro da Favela) on the internet.

So, can you recommend me any comic book / graphic novel writers from Brazil? Any websites or other sources where to learn about Brazilian comics? How popular are comics in Brazil, how big is the scene?

The comics are my main interest at the moment, but if you like, I also take recommendations for movies, books, music and (video)games. :)

Thanks!

(The series "Cidade dos Homens" is also brilliant. The brazilian "The Wire", in its own way.)
I'm already familar with Cidade de Deus e Cidade dos Homens, I'm more interested in the stuff that's not well-known and popular all over the world yet (original language is fine with me). But thanks all the same. :)
If you don't mind travelling a bit south (to Argentina, in fact), you can check Breccia's "Mort Cinder". The stories are a bit dull and repetitive, but the art... every panel is absolutely gorgeous.
Unfortunately comics are not my scene. But while looking for something to recommend you I found De:Tales

It's from the same guys that made Daytripper if you haven't already found it.

If you also accept movie suggestions there is the Elite Squad movies, Central Station, O Auto da Compadecida (a comedy so I don't know if will translate well) and Four Days in September which is loosely based on a true story.

To tell the truth, although it would have been an obvious move, I didn't search for it yet, but seeing how much I enjoy Daytripper, it will definitely go onto my wishlist, thanks!
