Until now, I feel I have been very lucky: I do not have a tale of this kind to share, though I fear it will not be for long.
What I can say with certainty is that one's life lenght does not matter, only believes and actions can shape and give value to the little time we have; reading the first post, I'm sure that Sachys' father has lived a full life and has nothing to regret - THIS is something one should be proud of, and we all should follow the example. Facing the end knowing that not even a moment has been wasted is not only commendable, but also something I myself hope to achieve when, eventually, I'll be in the same situation.

In for the giveaway -and thank you, as always- but only because it seems you value participation in this one.
Your dad is a hell of a man. I will drink a toast to him next chance I get. Thx for doing the GA. I'm in.
Thanks for sharing the stories of your dad. My best wishes Sachys.

Please count me in. Thanks members of the Sigil.
Some pics of Glasgow's shipyards on YouTube.
Numpty checking in. Thanks for the old mans stories, it was an interesting read.

My grandfather was an entrepreneur who started many companies, failed, and built them again until he founded a successful manufacturing business. He had a good sense of humor, he was always bringing home novelty items and gag gifts and making jokes. His car had electric windows and he thought it was funny to fart in the car and roll up all the windows and lock them. He'd also stick out his false teeth to freak out all the kids. I also distinctly remember him chucking berries at my moms car whenever we would leave. He was fun to be around and I was sad when he died.

That's all I've got. Grandaddy Maggotheart died when I was very young.
Not in just want to say thank you to Sachys and The SIGIL.
You have an admirable dad, Sachys.
Thank you yet again Sachys and the Sigil for providing another opportunity so please do count me in. Also it was quite amazing to read the stories about your old man Sachys, he sounds like a real hard man. I salute him and will pay tribute by having a beer (non-alcoholic) while listening to the Man in Black. :)
Hope all is going well Sachys. +1

Not in this time, but I gotta say, your father sounds like an interesting man.
A week on - only fitting that two of my dads favourite things come together:

Johnny Cash / Muppets "Ghost Riders in the Sky"

When I read about the bombers over the river Tay, I remembered my 1st grade school teacher. She used to cover her hears during fire practice alarms at school and once I even saw her secretly wiping a tear off her cheek. It was because of the old siren they were using and all the childhood memories she connected with their howling. Although Sachys' father grew up a tough guy, I'm sure he remembers the sound as well.

DeMignon:
Heheh!
Funnily enough he enjoyed the sound somewhat (being an evacuee overlooking the aerodrome, it meant childish excitement to him at the time).
I noticed though that over time, and as the AZ set in, that the sound (even in sleep) could send him down a darker path of thoughts / actions.
Thanks to all entrants / contributers so far!
Also thansk for thos of you that know me a ltitle better for your words! :)

edit: also thanks to misteryo for helping me out!

Sachys: ...He fought the Krays over the choice of a Duane Eddy tune on the jukebox in a London docklands cafe ...
Whoa, "Krays" didn't ring a bell at first, so I checked...
Its always rough to lose family. Ive only lost a few people that were close to me. The death of my grandmother sent me in a spiral of depression that ive only recently came back from. I am sorry for the loss. I am in and thanks for this giveaway
