K_1269: Thanks for all the info! Will definately look through all the links. However, I do think quite a few of the cards might be too large for the space I have in my case right now. For comparison, here are the links for the two cards I original asked about with the measurements:

http://www.alternate.de/Gainward/GTX760-Phantom-Grafikkarte/html/product/1104819?
http://www.alternate.de/SAPPHIRE/R9-270X-Grafikkarte/html/product/1103162?

Also, do you think those cards are not good enough for newer rpgs? ( I noticed you mentioned only better, more expensive models in your post. )
Compared to those you linked, id go with this: http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/3072MB-Sapphire-Radeon-R9-280X-Dual-X-Aktiv-PCIe-3-0-x16--Lite-Retail-_935700.html

its just a bit more expensive - but ALOT more powerful. Its sort of "tier" upgrade.

what case you have?

EDIT: There are several models of your current GPU - which model you have?

I have a GeForce GTX 770, and it runs everything perfectly. I can run the Witcher 2 with every graphical detail maxed out .

Case? Some noname. It's small though, definately will need to pick one of the smaller cards.

GPU is from ASUS:
Model Radeon HD 5700 Series
GPU Juniper
DirectX Support 11.0
DirectX Shader Model 5.0
OpenGL Support 4.1
GPU Clock 850.0 MHz
ROPs 16
Shaders 800 unified
Memory Type HyperMemory
Memory 1024 MB
Bus Width 64x2 (128 bit)
Pixel Fillrate 13.6 GPixels/s
Max Power Draw 108 Watts
I upgraded my card last year and I am no expert so I'll leave that to others but I did want to remind you to check out your power supply to see if it needs to be upgraded to help support the new card.

Am I right to assume the card doesn't seem strained by it at all? How about the noise level?

Makes no noise that I noticed.
My bad - after some googling, it would appear your current PSU probably doesnt like the 280X's.

Apparently youd want to have atleast 500W for them, so id say its cutting too close with 450W.

According to this: http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/6210/sapphire-radeon-r9-280-dual-x-3gb-oc-video-card-review/index14.html

450W psu should be enough for one step down 280, so no "X" -model.

Yes, this one looks right. Thanks for finding it iippo!

Talking about smaller cards:

2048MB HIS Radeon R9 270X Mini IceQ X² Boost Clock Aktiv PCIe 3.0 x16 (Retail), € 149,69*

Zotac is also good brand.

Not even then. 280 and 280X are both 250 watts TDP.

There aren't any power supplies below 500W that I'd trust with one. Not that the system draw would exceed 450W. But that no sub-500W power supply has adequate quality or proper provision of 12V on the auxiliary connectors. You need separate 6-wire and 8-wire auxiliaries. Not two 6-wire with a 6+2 connector, not a dual 6+2 on one set of wires, not a Molex adapter. Anything less is a fire hazard.

Corsair RM Series RM 650 '80+ Gold' 650W Power Supply is mine and the fan is usually not going, meaning it is running cool. I hate noise...

well, we ofcourse dont know what quality his PSU is - if its from solid manufacturer they typically output more than what promised and the cards need less W than what they say there.

typically GPU manufacturers suppose that people use crappy PSU's so they give higher demand that what it is in reality.

but ofcourse we do not know anything of OP's psu. i think?

I am using GTX 770 on Superflower 600W gold - i think i have like 100W too much "oomph", but it was cheap and i was tempted :( ...its silent though so shouldnt complain.

No, unfortunately I don't know the brand. Might be able to say more nexttime I turn my pc off and can take a better look. Not that I think it's that important. If I decide on GPU that needs more power I'll upgrade the PSU. Of course would be nicer to go with a GPU that is fine with my PSU as is.

About your links, it seems you favor cards with less memory than the ones I picked. Any particular reason for that?
