As we all know, GOG.com's current form of patching released games isn't too terribly effective, so I've proposed a (hopefully) new idea, and it is up to you, the fans and customers, as well as you over there, the people who are responsible for all of our being here right now, to judge, criticize, analyze, and pull apart my ideas from top to bottom as clearly as you can. I will provide the idea itself, one that I have not seen around here, and if it is here, then I will dutifully announce my failure in realizing that such an idea has been raised to the community. Now that that's through the way, onto the idea itself :D
I think that it would be neat to allow individual game installers to update themselves by allowing the user to run the installer on their computer, go into the options menu of the application, click a button that makes the installer go to the GOG servers and see if any update for the game it installs is up, as well as allowing an option for only installing the new elements of the game after the patch instead of completely reinstalling the game. The user may or may not also have an option of running another application(names like say, "falloutupdater.exe" or "baldur's_gate_2updater.exe") to update the game, in any coincidence that it may not work in the normal installer. The installers would never actually automatically check the internet for updates, giving off the feeling that the installer is DRM.
Feel free to judge my ideas up and down, left and right, and make sure to tell me and any other people reading this how you feel, that is your job, dear gamer, to report what you think about it and any flaws it may have in it's system. Thank you for reading, and remember, any and all forms of criticism and judgement are accepted!
