Anyone here played this game?
http://amuletsandarmor.com/index.htm

Info:
Amulets and Armor (A&A) is best described as a first person fantasy crawler designed by the minds of mad Game Masters. The game attempts to retain the feeling of playing tabletop fantasy with friends and a drink in your hand. Originally released in 1997, after a launch without a publisher, fewer than 100 copies of the game were sold, and eventually it faded into obscurity, only popping up on websites hosting abandoned software.

The original developers have recently brought it back to life, offering as freeware both the emulate-able DOS version and recently a Windows port with bug-fixes an networking for the multiplayer portion. I have yet to try it out, but the graphics look Daggerfall-like and obscure RPG's always peak my interest.

Don't remember hearing about it before, but sounds intriguing Crosmando. Now I have to go do some reading up on it. Know if the emulat-able DOS version runs in dosbox?
I remember, I voted for it and I think I used a screenshot of it in the 'What is this game?' thread once.
On the go, but sounds interesting. Favorited and will check out later.

Apparently yes, see: http://wiki.amuletsandarmor.com/index.php?title=DOSBoxConfig
But there's also a windows port if want to use that.

From what I can tell it's kinda arcade-like, as in their isn't a big world but you have an interface at the local guild/inn where you can receive quests (and you "teleport" to them after you accept)
Interesting. Which of the copies do they recommend? Let's say I prefer performance and stability before fancy features (like multiplayer) or graphics.
Thank you for sharing this!
No longer can open doors while dead.
Awwww...

That is correct, the quests are like Doom levels really.
The gameplay is also pretty simple and Doom-like, but with RPG elements such as classes.
It was interesting back in the day, especially that you could play it co-op on a LAN.
It probably doesn't hold up today though, but it's an interesting relic (like Arena)/

I believe they are exactly the same game, but you can expect the Windows version would more efficiently use system resources than emulation would. Though DOSBox gives you options like windowed mode and filters.
If anyone is interested, for New Years they have released a new version (1.04):

The work on the classic version continues. This is most of the last important bugs found in the game (see below). If you find more bugs, don't hesitate to send us a report them!

Here are the bugs fixed:
* Option added to disable dropping items when character dies.
* Option added to change speed of mouse and keyboard turn rates from 20% to 200%.
* Toggling between look and mouse mode no longer causes the look angle to jump.
* Added missing music files (MUSIC6 and DANCE). Now music can play on all adventure levels.
* Fixed a crash at the end of the first level of Elmore's Retreat.
* Fixed leak when playing a long time that would cause music to stop playing or crash.
* Fixed problem when teleporting to water covered area while wearing ring of water walking. It no longer constantly teleports back and forth.
* Movement speed is now properly recalculated when strength changes from spells.
* Health and Mana properly update when using amulets and rings for food and water conservation/nourishment.
* Improved diagonal strafe/sidestep calculations.
* Players can no longer move when dead.

I played this very briefly, could not get used to the control interface I think. Came to it from HOTU which any old games fan likely knows.

The most interesting aspect, already mentioned, is how it is more of a mission based RPG, rather than open world. Given how time consuming normal RPGs are, just this aspect tickles my curiosity enough to revisit it.

Who am I kidding... got enough backlog as it is. Anyway, if anyone knows other RPGs with same kind of structure let me know. Think of it as being what Fallout Tactics was to Fallout, but in a 1st person RPG.
