Hey,

To my great surprise today I came across a Western RPG that I hadn't heard about let alone played before - Anarchronox. It sounds awesome, distopian future, noir-style PI's, epic 50+ hour length. Thing is I looked it up at Wikipedia and it did mention that it ended on a 'major cliffhanger,' the plan being to make a sequel to conclude the story. Considering it came out ten years ago and the develpers no longer own the intellectual property this seems very unlikely to happen.

So here's my question - is it still worth downloading? I just don't want to invest 50+ hours and feel like it was wasted.

P.S. Please try to avoid all spoilers if you reply.

Thank you.

Yea I'd like to know that too. I hate open endings, might even be dealbreaker for me as well (and I wanted to buy Anarchronox at some point.)

I'll be honest with you: the cliffhanger really is a big one, and yes, seeing the game end at that moment will annoy you greatly. But even so, this does not render everything you've experienced up to that point worthless. Anachronox is a genuinely great game, and even though it's basically only the first act of a three-act story we'll probably never see told, what a fantastic act it is.

Familiar with the TV show Firefly? It's a bit like that. Cancelled much earlier than it should have been, but very much worth watching.
Open endings suck, but it would be like skipping all the Half-Life games just because you never really find out anything. The journey is the main point of buying and playing games in the first place.

Well, I really hate beating a dead horse, but the ending of Anachronox was better than the last 5 minutes of ME 3...

Sometimes, uncertainty is better than "WTF, are you shitting me?!".

But as others have said, Anachronox is something of a "must play" for the well versed RPG player.
You will play it or I'll set fire to your house.
