Two requests for another rant? Oh my...

[indierant]I get that a lot of people don't like seeing indies on GOG, but I wasn't a PC gamer back in the day. My first console was an Atari XE (it had console commands and a pretty crappy game library) and then I stuck with my NES and Genesis until around 1995. That's when my mom bought me a PC from the Home Shopping Network. I got her to buy me DIablo and Duke Nukem 3d (the game that brought me here) and I was introduced to the pleasures of PC gaming. However, when I moved out, I would be without a PC until about 9 years ago (I still have that PC though it is in its death throes). Even then, I didn't have an internet connection and was playing my PS2 for the most part.
What indies represent to me are chances to take risks on genres/ideas that aren't exactly popular. I can't say I'm a fan of Call of Madden's Ass Creed's yearly releases (I played CoD 2 and was fine with that. Black Ops? Not so much. AC1 was okay, but not as mind-blowing as people said it was. I don't touch Madden. I would rather see another Tecmo Bowl...if I liked football to begin with.). So, when I see an indie that reminds me of my fond gaming memories from yesteryear, I snatch it up. Yes, I bought Fist Puncher and liked it. Platformers made up the bulk of what I used to play when I was younger, so I don't mind seeing them again, but I will concede that they are reaching an over-saturation point.
Indies aren't all bad and I do like seeing them on GOG as much as I like seeing a great classic release. I got to play System Shock 2 for the first time this year and that was an awesome experience, but I also got to play some great indies this year as well. There are stinkers (like Anodyne, personally) but stuff like Defender's Quest, Papers Please, Rogue Legacy, Spelunky, and UnEpic let me play things that major publishers are unlikely to create themselves.[/indierant]
