I know this may be a taboo seeming how many people hate it for it's DRM but I was just wondering if anyone wanted to join up and make a sweet GOG region with me on the new SimCity?

Actually, its not the DRM, the fact that its locked behind a client, or the fact that it really isn't SimCity anymore, or that the AI of the game somehow managed to be worse than SimCity IV, or that EA directly lied to our faces and that Maxis is a soulless husk of the software toy company it once was...but rather the combined overall factors thereof.

SimCity 2013 is the anti-GOG, to be honest. However, I tip my hat and wish you well on your endeavor to tame cthulhu.

I play it off and on. I get easily annoyed, however, by the limited map size/terraforming and how everything is so... off from what SimCity used to be. You can only do so much in a single city and are forced basically to specialize.

Not a horrible game, but it really suffers from bearing the SimCity name and trying to be too much (the always online bit is a tad annoying, but I have long come to the acceptance that the industry will do what it will do).

I wouldn't mind trying multi-player, but my schedule is quite irregular lately (and will get more so with the holidays approaching). If I can work out a decent regular time to play an MP game then I would be up for it I guess.

Ok really... everything is simulated in the game, you make the cities a quarter the size of IV's cities and no computer could run it, the dev's have said that, they looked into it and they can't do it...


This was meant to be a polite thread not a "bash Simcity/EA thread" but than I forgot... I'm on the interent and politeness doesn't usually exist...

I don't think I was bashing any specific company/developer, I only stated that cities are too small.

Don't let the programmers fool you, the cities CAN BE BIGGER, the devs said they can't program it and lack the ability to program it.
And since the game is all ready released, they most likely have zero plans to go back and make cities bigger.

The DRM didn't really bother me, but I thought they took a huge step backward with the presentation. It's almost like they weren't really trying.

I remember when the Sim City first came out - I had a Geography Professor that used it in lab for us to simulate urban growth. I remember thinking that was really cool. I would like to see it here.

I've got to admit that SC topped for me with SC 3000.
I've tried the newer versions, but they got to EA'ed for my taste.
Ok, they are more realistic, but all the fun (jokes/puns) are all out. Now it's just down to building and maintaining a city, no fun, no "joking" from the papers or neighboring cities.
If I wanted it real, I might aswell just enroll for the local city council where I live.

I haven't played the original SimCity but Micropolis is supposed to be based off of the SimCity source code. If you don't mind Java (please don't kill me) is one continuation of that code base. [url=http://code.google.com/p/micropolis/]Or here which seems to be the same project...

Because the first SimCity is now under the GPL under the new title of Micropolis. There's no need to release it these days.
