Since this community is just great, I wonder if there are some people out there who are interested in some custom tournament? Personally I really like StarCraft 2 a lot, since this game offers so many interesting strategical options. And for those who don't play that good or are quite new to SC2, even watching a match can be quite fun.

The question is: Are there more out there (than just me :p), who are interested in competing each other 1v1 in StarCraft 2? If so, then maybe we should meet each other outside the forums in a little SC2 tournament exclusive to GOG members. This is the idea, now tell me you are interested! :)

Cheers

Edit:
If there are enough people interested, we could open a bracket for like 6-8 players (to start with), which are all GOG members. Every match (1v1) is BO3, the final round is BO5. Spectators may be allowed. From my personal experience the whole tournament (with 8 players only) would take like 1 hour.

Edit 2 (24.04.2012): Step 1: Organizing the tournament
All of your who are interested in participating (as a player or a spectator) please fill out the following form to help to organize the tournament: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dGFONzNhZlZDT0dIY0tZdk5aMF9Fa1E6MQ

More information see below (post 13).

Edit 3 (26.04.2012): The tournament will happen! Continue reading here:

I don't have SC2 but I will gladly watch it :)
If anyone doesn't own SC2, there is a Starter Edition out there. It has replaced the demo version. Of course there are limitations (eg. you can only play as Terran), but participating on certain maps is possible. If we are only 6-8 people, it should be no problem to choose a map pool that everyone can join; even with the Starter Edition.

I'm up for it as long we're just having fun. :)

I'm in gold but I'm not that great of a player.
I'm a decent enough player that I finished the game at normal difficulty but I'm terrible at PVP. I also don't have anything that runs the game smoothly.
I'm up for it, but only after Friday (available during the weekend) or next Friday (available for two-three weeks), depending on when you'd like to hold this tournament.
Btw, which server?

I only have an account on NA.

Didn't know that... have to try it later
Wouldn't mind joining, I'm a Gold level player.
EU account.
I'll have to do some training before this starts... Haven't played the game in quite a long time. especially competitively. Was a platinum player when the top league was diamond, but my skills may be a bit rusty now.

Same here, lol. I may have to grind out quite few games on ladder. I haven't tighten up couple of build orders yet.
A little bump!

Also, profile link: http://eu.battle.net/sc2/en/profile/812948/1/Elenarie/

(yup, I'm on the EU servers)

Anyways, I have exams the next three days, but am free afterwards (have an exam next Monday and Thursday too, but those shouldn't be an issue).

Since there are actually some people willing to participate in this tournament (yay!), I think it is time for an update on this thread.

The Grid:
First we should start by defining the size of the grid. I think this first tournament should have a small grid (8-10 players max). This has two reasons: It is better to have only few people who actually want to play, than more people who sign in but never show up later. Also with only 8-10 players the tournament will not take forever, but be over in like 1-2 hours, which is a good way to start with. Others are free to join as spectators of course (ingame)!

The Account/Server:
Since I only own an EU account, I would prefer to play on the EU servers, unless there is someone willing to share his NA account for this tournament.

The game version:
If you do not own the full version of the game, there is a starter edition out there (= demo version). It has limitations, of course (eg. you can only play as Terran and on certain maps), but with only 8-10 players I think it should be possible to refer to a map pool that is available to everyone.

The skill level:
Of course there are huge differences between a bronze player (who has played only very few games so far) and a master player (who knows many build oders and reacts almost perfectly). But after all this is a tournament we play just for fun! In the first round I try to seed equal players, but after that you may play against someone that is better/worse than you. However, please do not quit then, but try to play an interesting game. This is more fun for your opponent, for the spectators and for you!

The Time:
After all we need a time where most of you are able to participate. Personally I expect the weekend to fit best, but we still need a certain time. Let us try to have not too many options and therefore choose between the afternoon (~ 3-5 pm GMT) and the evening (~ 7-9 pm GMT). Those are just my suggestions; feel free to post yours, if you think they are doing better.

To organise this a little better, I have created the following table where you are able to answer some questions that deal with the above topics. I will post the results here after some days so that we have some concrete information to work with. Then I hope the first GOG StarCraft 2 Tournament can start soon!

Please fill out to participate:
This is no sign up yet (will follow later), but it helps to bring the data together.

Rhineland: ...
I filled it up.

EDIT: To those participating, please link to your profiles, I'd like to know exactly who am I dealing with! :D

I will check all profiles ingame before setting up the grid to guarantee that at least in the first round the matches will be as even as possible. After all, in this tournament everyone should have fun and must not be frustrated to play against someone who is by far better (or worse). And since I am quite familiar with StarCraft 2, smurf accounts will have no chance at all, don't worry. ;)
