good god this thread is making my head hurt.

seriously stop screwing things up by hitting no just because you disagree, or yes if you agree. It doesn't make any sense, and is not the intention of the question.

There's an annoying number of "I PLAYED THIS WHEN I WAS A YOUNG UN" and "BACK IN MY DAY" reviews at the top of the reviews list. These aren't helpful to someone like me, who's never played most of the games that are released on GOG. I don't care what someone's perspective of a game was when it was released, I only care how much fun the game is now.

ZOMG AWSUM GAEM IF U DONT PLAY IT YOUR A DORK

The problem is that certain people will upvote unhelpful reviews if they agree with the rating and vice versa.

DadouXIII: Unhelpfull is subjective!
So are you in favor of these types of reviews, and do you find that review helpful? Ok...what at all is helpful in that review? Yes, I know you like saying unhelpful is subjective, and technically you're correct. Somewhere out there, there could be some crazy ass that actually finds that review notably helpful,,, because ...well some people just don't make a lot of sense.
But seriously, reviews like that are useless, and voting that as useful just doesn't make any sense to me at all

DadouXIII: Well, if you have a different view and opinion on a game than a reviewer of this game (which basically mean you dissagree with him), then that means you don't think what he says is informative. Therefore it's not as informative than a review you agree with!
But that doesn't mean people aren't also downrating reviews that are poorly written...
Riiiigghhhhtt.....

So basically you're saying that a review of a game you have already played is "informative" even though you know all about the game already (you couldn't otherwise agree with it!).

Well then that's perfect, vote down the reviews that you feel are useless!
That's the whole point of the system!

Yeah, I already know what the point of the system is. I never said to get rid of the system, What you just said has nothing to do with whether somebody should vote a review as useful just because they agree with it, which is what the discussion is about. These last few replies you're basically posting..... but saying nothing at all . You're either trolling or you don't even know exactly what you're trying to argue.
Either way, you're not making any cohesive sense , so I'm gonna leave this discussion. See ya later.

I think that's really the issue here. Isn't it better for people who *haven't* played the game to rate the user reviews?

After all, it's the people who haven't played it who are going to be the best judge about whether a review convinced them to purchase (or stay away from) a particular game.

Or is that not the point of the user reviews in the first place?
