In video games. There are a lot of talented artists in the industry, working to meet the never ceasing demand for new characters, costumes, enemies, landscapes and all the other things we look at while playing a game.
How about we share pieces of art design that especially appeal to us? Could be anything, even a building or a weapon. Ideally, also come up with a short explanation for why you enjoy it.
I'll start with Juri Han, a Street Fighter character. Really interesting design, some kind of twisted Chun-Li. Also check out her Kaisen Dankairaku on youtube. Good stuff.
I used to really like her background. She's something of a super being; evolved beyond us mere mortals who are bound by our pityful morals, frail human bodies and societal constraints, she is completely free to indulge herself in any way possible. Then I found out that she has a "troubled past" and lost her parents, which is fucking disappointing. Seems to me like a way of explaining away her evilness and downgrading her into a mere product of society, just like the rest of us suckers.
Then there's Mad Moxxi from Borderlands. Really unique mixture between saloon girl and Kabuki. Or has that been done before, anybody know?
She's also a lovely litle character, delighting in violence and gore and making the player kill for her pleasure. No unresolved daddy issues or similar bullshit either, as far as I know. By the way, I used to consider "Who loves you and who do you love?" far and away the best quote in video gaming history, until it was brough to my attention that it's taken from a movie. Pity.
So... anybody else?
