That is really sad, Momo! I am glad to see that you are able to enjoy days with your dog now though, and keep him comfortable and as happy as possible.
An update:

It has been a very, very, very long couple of weeks. Long story short, Gus is doing much better although he has pretty serious arthritis and an infection in his gums. After a trip to the vet wherein I was pretty certain she'd recommend euthanasia, we came home with lot of medications and some instructions on making him comfortable. The following week was tenuous with me having to basically force-feed him baby food. But a few days ago he began to eat solid bits of meat on his own and is actually keeping his food down. YAY!

So with a bit of adjustment to pain meds so he isn't totally loopy all the time, we think he's out of the woods for now ;-) Oh and he's loving being completely spoiled rotten.

To all that posted supportive comments, thank-you. It really meant a lot to me...
That's awesome news Momo :D
Now that's good news! Fingers crossed, that it'll stay that way.
There is no greater feeling in life than when we are touched by Love, giving or receiving. Often people tend to forget animals give and receive Love without any thought to how we look, how we speak, where we are from, or even what our ancestry is. They Love us because of the Love we give them, and Gus sure has been getting lots of Love.

I hope during this tough time y'all can look back and remember the Love given and received with Gus. Thanks for sharing your story, and I am sorry y'all are having to go through this. Hopefully Gus continues to stay improved and has many more years of Love to give and receive.

We should all take the example animals give us for giving and receiving love and apply it in our lives. Don't look at someone and pre judge them solely on how they look, speak, or act. Be kind to one another, no matter your differences, and you'll find it's rather easy to get along with someone.

Peace all

They sure hate the mailman though. I would like to think t's because mailmen trespass on the dogs territory, but they start barking as soon as they seem him across the street.

Good to hear about your best friend, Momo.
Thanks for your post Momo, the more people talk openly about discrimination of any form, as well as racism, bigotry and similar injustices out there, the more I believe it has a positive effect on more and more people realizing that everyone can and should recognize that these things are not the right path to go down, and that they are nothing more than artificial division between people. Look at the great strides that have been made in the last 100 years to combat various forms of discrimination already for the greater good of all mankind and it's clear both that such progress will continue to be made more and more as time goes on and also that it needs to be made.

The more inclusive we are of people, the more tolerant of their different views and different lifestyle choices, culture, etc. the more we all come together on this rock hurtling through space. There are far bigger issues out there that demand our collective attention than tearing each other apart because of the way we look, talk, or personal preferences about how we live our various lives. Hopefully more and more people come to realize this and develop increased tolerance and compassion for others even if they have opposing views.

Very sorry to hear about your dog also, they quickly become like a family member to us and it's always hard to experience their ills and eventual loss. I wish you and your little friend well, hopefully you'll have a lot more time together yet to come!
We had to put our dog down due to his arthritis. He did well fighting it it for a good while, but then one winter day came along where he just couldn't get to his feet and was dragging himself to the food bowl. I'm glad to hear your dog is doing well, and I hope things continue that way
