FoxySage: All the proof you need for that is to look at Flemeth's change from Origins to DA II. It is a rather jarring contrast in my opinion, even if it technically makes sense because she could have changed form as a shapeshifter.

I have to confess that I quite liked the fact that Felmeth was made into a quite the sexy woman in DOII, in keeping with her very powerful voice acting, and her armor was just the coolest in the whole game, IMO! This one you can imagine seducing hapless males to produce her daughters, as opposed to the literal hag of DO:A.

This said, I did have to smile upon the encounter that despite the very coy and gentle wrinkles around her eyes, her cleavage did give any other female in the game run for their money despite, presumably, being centuries old... :-p
I loved the voice of the female Hawke. One of the few upsides to that game.

RaggieRags: Never really thought about it before. It's true they were probably trying to make an attractive Hawke, and sadly in western culture it means young for women. It could have been worse though, at least the female Hawke looks like a badass and not a Barbie.
Western culture? In other cultures they respect the elderly more, but what is and isn't attractive is largely a function of reproduction ultimately. It was pretty clear, even in China, that younger women are preferable in that regard to older women.
