Don't Starve Even More!

Don't Starve: Reign of Giants DLC is now available on GOG.com for 10% off the regular price at just $4.49 until 09:59 AM GMT on 07 May (the base game "Don't Starve" is required to play.).

Don't Starve is a charming game about working in a all-you-can-eat buffet, where the daily challenges are few and simple. In "Reign of the Giants", a visiting basketball team literally falls in your lap from the sky above like a rain of gian--no, wait. I'm told that all of the above is a lie. Let me try again:

Don't Starve is a game about not starving. This sounds like it could be easy, but literally every single freaking thing around would be happiest if you starved. From the seasons to the wildlife, everything is busy taking food from the food chain and putting it somewhere other than in your stomach. It's not an easy game, but definitely a rewarding one once you have figured out how to balance all of the challenges.

Which is where Reign of Giants comes in: now with torrential rains in spring and blistering droughts in summer, suddenly the "safe" seasons are no longer guaranteed to be quiet and tranquil affairs of OHGODOHGODMONSTERSATEMYFACEOHGOD. There are now more biomes, which means a varied palette of gorgeous new terrain has arrived, and with it have come the concomitant monsters to eat your face. There are new scientific discoveries, new mysteries to plumb, and even new characters to play! Finally--and this may only be a rumor--but there are large creatures in this game, and they might be giants. Spoiler alert: the giants probably want to eat your face.

If you're a fan of games that are hard but fair, games that are filled to the brim with exploration, and experiences that will delight and terrify alike, then you should already own Don't Starve. If you do own Don't Starve--or if we've piqued your interest in it with this DLC--then you should own the Reign of Giants DLC. It's the bee's knees of third-person survival sim terror, and it's 10% off for just $4.49 until 09:59 AM GMT on 07 May.

I thought the same thing, but man, is it tough! There is just about no guidance other than trial-and-error and some logic on the part of the player, but the impression I have gotten over time from reading the forums here is that once you figure out what needs to happen to allow for other things to happen, it is easier. One of those where the beginning game is much harder than the end-game (again, just an impression from the forums - cannot say I personally experienced this).

Silverhawk170485: The DLC is integrated in the basegame and offers more content for the basegame. However the DLC content can be switched off in the main menu if you like to play the pure base game.

So, this DLC makes the game even harder then?

I never managed to survive thus far, it's not that I dislike the game or anything, it's one of the few games where I don't mind failing because I'm meant to do that, but why should I ever get that DLC if I never survived to see the winter?

Never survived to see the winter? You're doing something wrong then.
You should stick to an appropriate tactic. For example place your base near beefalos and pigs (somewhere between these two places). But don't build your base exactly in pigs settlement - some of them might turn to werepigs on full moon and will attack you! ASAP get gold and build science machine and alchemy engine. Then start building advanced farms (food grows faster). Build a crockpot - it is crucial for your survival. Learn best recipes to use in crockpot (like meatballs). Never eat seeds - you'll need them for farms. Find ponds - you can catch frogs with traps and use them on a drying rack - one of the main sources of food in winter, imo. You can can fish at sunset and at night (frogs won't disturb you at this time) at ponds. Etc, etc, etc...

I can recommend you to watch Sips's video on youtube. He has quite a long series of Don't Starve "let's play's".

Just a quick question. Will this DLC work with the Steam version of Don't Starve?
I bought Don't Starve before it was available on GoG and would like to buy the DLC on GoG now.

I can't answer for sure (so I probably shouldn't at all), but I doubt it will work. The GOG DLC installer probably won't find the steam install of the base game. Also, I think the steam version uses steam features not present in the GOG version.

If you need DRM-Free version, you can activate your steam key in Humble Store. When you'll buy ROG dlc on steam, you'll get another key, for this dlc, which you can activate in Humble Store.

Why does GOG fall for calling this with weird marketing coined term "DLC"? It's as non descriptive and negative sounding as it can be. Downloadable content? Anything acquired through network can be called downloadable content. Calling this an expansion pack makes way more sense.

"DLC" usually has a bad connotation, as something split from the original game on purpose in order to rip users off on extra money. Expansion pack on the other hand is something clearly developed later in addition to expand the original game, so it makes it more appropriate to charge for it.
