ancalimon: Trying it with UFO - Enemy Unknown. (it's not on Gog). But it also happened with some other games. I was wrong about it happening on all games. It doesn't happen for example in Goblins3.

korell: X-COM: Enemy Unknown, aka X-COM: UFO Defense?
Try this: http://www.ufopaedia.org/index.php?title=UFOextender
It is a Windows loader for the game. You can still play it vanilla, but it does provide various bug fixes and can provide new functionality should you wish to enable those functions.
XCOM - Ufo Defense. (Since I played the game mostly on my Amiga 1200, I always use that name. It was named as Ufo - Enemy Unknown on Amiga.
Thanks. I'll try that. I hope midi music works properly with that using soundfonts.

Just tried Star Control 3 and the same problem about mouse movement occurs.

UFO: Enemy Unknown aka X-Com: UFO Defense. XCOM: Enemy Unknown is the 2012 game by Firaxis.

(Pet peeve of mine, ignore me).

Not a problem. It is UFO Defense to me, anyway.
But, the European PlayStation release is titled X-COM: Enemy Unknown, meaning the only difference in title to the 2012 game is the removal of the hyphen giving XCOM.

Qbix: I am sorry, I wasn't very clear with one of my questions:
The horizontal vs vertical movement problem: Which game ?

And what about fullscreen vs windowed mode ? I recall reports of people saying that only fullscreenmode had problems.

Try this with XCOM :

fullscreen=false
fullresolution=desktop
windowresolution= 1280x1024
output=ddraw
cycles=auto limit 16000
blocksize=1024
prebuffer=10

Depending on the performance you get with these settings , use the following shortcuts to tweak the frameskip and the computer cycles

CTRL+F7 - Lower Frameskip (smoother animation)
CTRL+F8 - Raise Frameskip
CTRL+F11 - Slow Dosbox down
CTRL+F12 - Speed Dosbox up
To those who are also having problems with mouse movement.

Problem with Logitech mouse and Dosbox is fixed by disabling both "Mouse Acceleration" from Logitech Gaming Software" and also disabling "Enhance Pointer Precision" from Windows Mouse settings.
Everyone seems to be under the misapprehension that 1280x1024 is 4:3. It's not.

Indeed. 1280x960 or 1360x1024 are the equivalent 4:3 resolutions. 1280x1024 seems to have bizarrely established itself because it was one of the standard resolutions offered by Windows 98/Me back in the day.

640 - 256, 640 - 512 and 640 - 1024 were all standard Amiga PAL, PAL Interlaced and Double PAL resolution back in the day. I guess 1280 - 1024 was related with that resolution.
