One thing that immediately stood out to me was this:
There's also an Android port, but from what I read on the forum it's only available in Japan.
* Using the App on iPhone 4s/iPad2/iPad mini
After extended play on these devices, some instability may occur, and the app may occasionally freeze or crash.
We apologise for the inconvenience, but please keep the following in mind while playing:
- Save your game often.
- When suspending play, please make sure to close the app completely via the recently used apps list.
- Frequent crashes can sometimes be remedied by restarting your device.

Dragon Quest VIII is probably my favourite Dragon Quest. I have s soft spot for V, VII and Monsters but DQ VIII is just plain fun. The monster arena is really fun too. I prefer the arena part alone over the DS Joker games.

Today is the day that the iOS port of Dragon Quest VIII launches in markets outside of Japan. I don't think this is an indication of any impending PC edition; although it's a mystery to me why they would favor mobile over PC versions (unless mobile somehow commands a higher premium price).

PC version?
Not likely, as it was not yet released on PC in Japan, and don`t expect, that they would start working on it anytime soon, as SE is generally very lazy, and this would require quite a big effort from their side.
And in the worst case it would end like those older ports of Final Fantasy VII / VIII, which were quite shoddy.
As they didn`t change controls or visuals in any way, it was very awkward to play on the keyboard only (without gamepad), and it also looked quite outdated in that lower resolution graphic taken directly from PS1.
But port to Android would be more welcome, and also more likely, considering there was such release already done in Japan, and they just need to translate it.
DQ series is really quite a legendary series, and there are a lot of fans, who consider it to be better even than Final Fantasy, but that will probably still not make an instabuy for me.
The current price for iOS version is really extremely high for game on a mobile platform, and that pretty little disclaimer about technical issues, which should have been solved long ago, is also not giving me much hope it will be really worth its price.

Mobile is far more popular in Japan and Dragon Quest's main audience is Japan. The only reason Dragon Quest X is on the PC is because as an MMO, that's a platform where it suits the game and Japanese users expect a lot of MMOs to run on PCs.
I'm sorry to say that I think it terribly unlikely that Dragon Quest VIII will come to PC. Unlike Final Fantasy, which is more of a committee-run series of revolving developers within Square Enix, all the control for what happens with Dragon Quest lies with Yuji Horii. As an example of how this makes things different, Square Enix has a different way of handling Dragon Quest sound tracks (they aren't on their typical music store for all their other properties) likely because of some preference by Koichi Sugiyama and Horii.
If he decides one day that he doesn't mind Dragon Quest on PC, he will do that, but it's unlikely he will. I don't think it's an antipathy thing. It's more that he seems to favor simpler inputs for wider audiences and mouse and keyboard is not, nor do I think it will ever be considered simple by Japanese users. There's also the problem that other than Dragon Quest IX, which is the only game in the series designed ground up for a touch interface so far, none of the games would translate well to high resolutions and mouse control.

The really sad thing is that this year marks the series' 25th anniversary in the United States and Square Enix has done nothing to commemorate what is arguably my favorite RPG series. Sure, when the anniversary came about in Japan a couple years ago, they did all sorts of stuff, but that doesn't help or cater to me any.
I've been a fan for the entire 25 year run, guys. Give me anything. Heck, I'll even take a simple announcement that Dragon Quest X is getting a state-side release. Y U no want my muneez, Squenix?

I hope they just release a port of iOS version for PC. By the way, Square-Enix is just stupid: it has a lot of legendary franchise, but he doesn't use them properly. The same is for Konami.

Not on PC...? (—_—)
I had this on PS2 and it was great! I would buy it again if this one appears later on PC... ^_^

Not knocking this stuff, the more games the better, but I am surprised there seems to be a real market for JRPG and fighting games on PC. Those genres pretty much never existed on PC until recently.

It's not necessarily any indication - but Square Enix released Final Fantasy III exclusive to mobile for three years before it was just yesterday released on PC by Steam.

Well, DQ8 is officially available on the U.S. iTunes App store. The $20 price tag is a bit steep, in my opinion, but you'll certainly get hours upon hours of gameplay out of it if you want 100% completion. I definitely give them bonus points for making it compatible with iOS 6.0.
When Final Fantasy 6 came out, it was going to be an insta-buy, but it "requires" iOS 7.0. Sorry, Apple, I'm not biting.
