jdsgn: See here for the feature request.

F4LL0UT: Don't want to be that guy but I also added the same kind of wish a while ago (wow, more than two years ago actually - doesn't have that many votes, though):
WOOP
Yep, I know, big sorry for the double-post, I know that this stupid and clutters the wish list. I actually even voted for yours. Problem is, I found it only after I had committed the feature request here... I do not know why I was unable to find your request in the first place, maybe because of a simple stupid typo... anyway, one more reason to think a bit of promotion is necessary.

011284mm: I think it would be a good idea too. A quick glance over reviews is useful, but when they are talking about outdated information they become more of a hindrance towards future sales.
I totally agree!

Tarm: Why not grey out or minimise reviews done for a earlier version of a game instead?

Wishbone: Because invalidating all existing reviews every time GOG makes a new installer with different banner ads is a bad idea? Sorry, didn't mean to sound so snarky, but that's about it, I think. There are so many updates to games which are not relevant for reviews that I really do think it would be a bad idea.
That's true. I forgot about that.
But I still have reservations about editing reviews for various reasons.
1: People might think "I'll finish it later".
2: People will read the first bad review and are unlikely to go back and read the updated one if they are on the fence and about to give the game a second chance.
3: People meddle. They can have loads of reasons to vandalise. For example getting angry at GOG and go crazy on their old reviews because they know there's a chance people will read them.
They get mad at the developer and change their review to a rant. Etc.
4: Reviews might grow into novels when gamers add to them while they are playing the game.

In short. People can be aggravating meddlers.
Or is this me showing how much I despise people in general? I got burned on a customer service job so I sometimes doesn't notice when I go overboard.

In my humble opinion, these are all scenarios that are possible, yet not very likely (except maybe for the 4th one), though I think it's understandable that your experiences in customer services let you expect the worst, I bet you've been confronted to a lot of stupidity.
But maybe you're right and I'm wrong, just my opinion.

Stupidity isn't something that really bothers you working at customer service. It's that such a big percentage of people calling/getting in touch with customer service are mean, nasty, angry or downright evil. Let me just say that I have no problem at all understanding why there is so much violence in this world.

So yeah the examples I wrote down off the top of my head probably are worst case scenarios but that's the way I usually see things like this. :(

Some people just don't (want to?) understand that customer service is not the one who caused their problems...
Anyway, I think you can have a little more faith in the GOG community, they're mostly good people (at least as far as I've experienced) (;
I just submitted a review and all the paragraphs went missing. Sure would be nice to go back and fix it.

Often it's because they think something should work in a certain way and when they find out it doesn't they lose it. Suddenly all that matters to them is themselves and everyone and everything else can fuck off and die. I absolutely loathe self entitlement.
Regarding what caused their problem it can be a lot of things. Themselves, salesmen, shops, technical glitch, hardware malfunction, customer service or other things. People generally do not handle "problems" well.

True that GOG have a better crowd than most. Unfortunately it only takes few to screw it up for many.
It may work here to be able to edit reviews but me I'm still sceptical.

I meant paragraph breaks, so everything is jammed in together. Funny thing is I see other reviews which have formatted paragraphs, so what's the trick?

Wishbone: You're right. Editing reviews should be possible. If a game has problems on release that are subsequently fixed, the game card shouldn't be full of reviews complaining about those issues. Of course, you can't force anyone to go back and edit their review, but it would be nice to have the option.
Additionally, have the reviews marked with what version (of the GOG installer) was the current when the review was written/edited, or even the last version that the customer downloaded.

Yeah, why not, good idea!

A true magician will never reveal the secret.

Besides it's an illusion not a trick.

TV Series, Arrested Development.

I voted, I completely agree because it makes reviews a one time shot and if the problems in a game were patched or it were improved through expansions, impressions of a game could change over time. I don't know if reviews can be changed by personally contacting staff in a case by case basis, but if not, it should be left as an option or even a limited option such as editing reviews for a set amount of times. I would prefer unlimited but any effort to move this forward would be better than nothing. Sometimes one review is enough but if issues or concerns were discussed that were not an issue due to updates, it would be inaccurate (even though one could cross reference such reviews with when it was made versus the update date) and I have seen edited reviews by GOG staff stating it was updated like in Defender's Quest. Let's hope for the best, thanks for bringing awareness to this.
