Hi,

I've been trying to find a game an old friend once told me about, but I barely remember anything about it.

I only know that it takes place in a post-apocalyptic world, and due to the apocalypse only old records remain (like music from the 20s), a nice pretext for making the game music mostly of this kind, and thus creating an eery contrast between the musical and visual environment. Note that this is probably not a central element of the game.
The genre might be fps.
And obviously I also remember that my friend convinced me it is a great game.

Do those elements sound familiar to anyone?

Also, is there already dedicated threads for questions like these? I've searched a bit but the General discussion forums are kind of a mess to me.

No dedicated forums, just this one.

Most of the more well known Post Apoccolypse include Fallout and Wasteland, but Fallout was Isometric and Wasteland is something more akin to something like the early Ultima games. If you know any other things that could help us figure it out? Dating, graphics, control, hardware that ran it, so forth.
Like this? ;)

Grab it while it's free, just in case. The old games here on GOG are not FPS, but part 3 and New Vegas have first and third person perspectives reminiscent of FPS.
To be honest, the only thing I remember for sure is the old records stuff, but it seems special enough to be remembered by someone who played it.

I can give a little more but I hope it won't mislead you: I think it ran on PC, was released in the late 90s-early 00s... well sorry for such a hazy description.

Edit: okay I feel so stupid now ^^
Thanks Leroux.

You're welcome. Actually, for a moment I had to stop and wonder if your post was not a hoax, coming at the very same time when these games are the center of attention here. :D

Anyway, the FPS and thing sounds very much like Fallout 3 which is from 2008 (I think the first two games don't feature music from the 20's, apart from the intro, just [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIRlNZSCVww&list=PLda2FVlmO6L0KN7DZKNuO0WIDbXtgj4No]atmospheric tracks), but maybe your friend was trying to recommend the whole series to you

Well he was referring to a single game, but the Fallout series being this famous (although I never played it, as you can tell), no doubt I will find time to play it all.

Well, to tell the truth I have yet to play them, too. I only ever got one or two hours into the first game, but fortunately that was enough to remember the intro. ;)
