It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Make sure you go to the website to 'confirm' the 25GB space. There have been some changes to the service, and now the default free space available is 7GB, but you can upgrade for free to 25GB.

Also, the desktop application should be available now at apps.live.com (it is available for Vista, 7, and 8).

thanks for the heads up! :) +1
Aw, that's only for those who already had accounts before today :( Still, a free 7GiB cloud account is nothing to sneeze at. Thanks for letting us know.
Thanks for the info. I'll probably never use the 25GB, but it's good to have it available.
Thanks for the info. I rarely use skydrive but sometimes might come in handy.
(sorry for the bump)

I must say, I find the desktop application pretty easy to use, just like another folder on your HDD. Also, just noticed that SkyDrive now allows you to set ODF to be the default format for your documents, pretty useful, and it should further improve compatibility between office suites.

Somewhat related... I've gone away from Office to LibreOffice, mainly because my Office installation wasn't exactly 100% legal (got it from university, but it was meant for inside use only), so the ODF support is a big plus for SkyDrive.

Now if only Windows Phone supported ODF, but let's hope that they'll bring that feature in a future update (maybe with WP8?).
Thought they'd never get around to making this app. Downloading now.
Oh cool. Thanks.
That is good. Now if only they make an ad-free chat program, I might stop hating Microsoft.
So, uh, how does this compare to Dropbox? Is it faster, more convenient, better in general? Or does it serve a different purpose and shouldn't be compared?
thanks for this. i didn't even realise there was a mac app. looks ok!

Dunno much about Dropbox, but SkyDrive is pretty easy to use. Especially if you're a Hotmail user, SkyDrive should be your default online storage service. Not to mention it comes with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote, which can view and create DOC, DOCX, and ODF files.

It comes integrated into Windows 8 and Windows Phone. The desktop application is incredibly easy to use, just install it, and it automatically synchronizes everything in the SkyDrive folder (you can set any folder to be your SkyDrive folder) to your SkyDrive account and back.

Not trying to advertise it or anything, but I've been quite satisfied with it... 25GB (which I'll probably never fill up, but it is good to have) of online storage that goes together with my email account, synchronizes my stuff across my laptop and mobile phone.
