I didn’t choose the clown life, the clown life chose me.

The Whispered World: Special Edition, a charming, hand-drawn adventure of the boy-clown Sadwick and his caterpillar pal Spot, is available on GOG.com for $15.99 (20% off the full price until 9:59 AM GMT on 13 May 2014.

Sadwick is a twelve-year old with a melancholic vein. He not only dislikes the circus, where he lives with his brother and grandpa, and his normal life, where he cannot travel and explore the world, but also, he’s just been told in a prophetic dream that the world is coming to an end, and it’s his fault. And even though Sadwick is not happy with the way things are going for him, he is not going to let the world just end without a fight. This sad clown will travel through four game acts, with his caterpillar friend Spot, to the King’s Castle in Corona to prevent the beautiful but perilous world of Silentia from sliding into destruction.

This is just the beginning of an engaging and emotional dreamlike game starring this uncommon but sympathetic pair trying to save everything that exists. The graphics are suited for a fairy-tale: absolutely stunning hand-drawn scenery and animated cartoon characters. Subtle humor, usually coming from Sadwick’s cynical comments, strange encounters, otherworldly locations, and imaginative riddles guarantees an unforgettable adventure.

New in the Special Edition is the developers' commentary featuring Jan 'Poki' Müller-Michaelis and Marco Hüllen, as well as the in-game orchestral soundtrack, unlockable achievements, an alternate ending, and re-polished graphics in some scenes. The Whispered World: Special Edition is an enchanted point-and click with twists and turns to hold you occupied for days. The game won “Best Story” and “Best Youth Game” at the 2009 German Game Developer Awards and is an excellent adventure game for all ages.

Lugamo: Daedalic Entertainment seems to forget the users who bought their Humble Weekly Sale.
Yeah, that's where I got mine too. I guess they figure we didn't pay a full price, so we don't count. Of course, they're the ones who made the sale offer through Humble, but whatevs.

That's the version I have, and that's the version I'll play.

Shambhala: It seems to me that rising prices, while may be inconvenient as it may lead to a loss of sales, it still perfectly fair and acceptable. The whole problem, and the main reason while people complained, was because they feared Daedalic was selling a patch. They proved it's not the case.
You missing the point, yes raising prices is the full prerogative of Daedalic, however doubling the price of a five year old game (and not one of their better IMHO) to the level of their newer (and better) titles wouldn't result in increase of sells.

So Daedalic took their five year old game, tweak with it a little and present it as a new game with a full price, in my book its called trying to cheat your customers.

And people didn't "fear" Daedalic would charge extra for this "upgrade", they said so themselves, I suspect they changed their mind after realizing what a PR disaster that would be.
Looks like everyone, regardless of store (GOG, Steam, Humble, etc.) will be upgraded to the special edition at no cost.

Does anyone know what the updates in the Special Edition are? ie. is there any new content?

Developer's commentary, in-game orchestral soundtrack, an alternate ending, and a some graphical brushing up of some scenes. Oh and there is a tutorial as well :)

An alternate ending.
Did they remove the annoying-ness of the main character? Not worth the upgrade if not :p

Well, I wait for reviews all the same.

Punished_Snake: I won't buy another Daedalic game, excluding bundled ones.
I also bought the complete Daedalic pack some times ago (maybe the other year), then they bundled the majority of the games after a week or so.

Then now they are asking money for a patch, exactly as SE did for Deus Ex Human Revolution.
They aren't asking money for a patch, they just changed the price of their games (as proven by the fact that whoever bought it is getting the update for free).

blotunga: Too bad that there has to be a user outcry in order for publishers to realize that they shouldn't be douchebags.
Agreed. :\

I agree that it won't do good to their sales, I believe as well that it is a bad marketing move, but does it show a lack of principles or a disinterest regarding the people that support your work? I don't think so.

A customer is someone who bought your game, so I don't see how anyone is being cheated since previous customers are receiving the update for free. The other people will have a chance to become a customer, buying a probably overpriced game, or to just skip it altogether.
I'm glad for the free update. But please, listen to your customer and provide a better service when you update the games. What's the point of showing updated titles in the account page if the title are flagged randomly and manually. How a customer is supposed to trust such unenthusiastic way of manage already existing games.
The task is simple: every new file should be flagged as new with the date of the upload and maybe a crc for check.
In the last few weeks you have updated a lot of title and the reporting is a disaster.
I ask, why aren't this updates flagged as "updated"? Otherwise, why an update flag exist in the first place if you can't rely on that?
I'm sorry if I sound frustrated but this isn't the first time and you keep doing that like if it's not an issue at all.
A question - does anyone know what the overall state of this company is? Are they in the process of going down the drain and attempting to save themselves by way of price increases or are they just trying for a bad faith money grab instead?

Because they changed their mind. Initially they asked 5€ for the patch.

So, nth really that could even remotely justify all the talk about it also being a patch...

Ghorpm: Dear Daedalic Entertainment!

~ Great parallelism ~

Ghorpm
Really enjoyed the way you put it! ;-)

As nice as a free upgrade can be (so thanks), it still remains to be seen if the game itself got improved in any way.
Also doubling the price on the basis of the added extras is still not a smart move.
Actually, Daedalic, it'd be interesting to hear your reasoning for a number of decisions you made lately as it seems to escape us.
So how'd splitting up the Edna and Harvey games work for you, Daedalic Entertainment?

You say they're currently the worst- and second-worst selling games on GOG because nobody wanted to pay your inflated price for them, especially after they used to be available for a fair price?

Hm.

Well, no doubt it was just a fluke, and people will flock to buy The Whispered Word after you doubled the price despite making no significant changes.
