DX2 was still a decent game. The simplified gameplay was a major facepalm, but the story did set up an interesting conflict. I think the game would have been a lot better received if the PC version wasn't such a pathetic X-Box port. The textures were lousy, the interface was gaudy and intrusive (obviously meant to be viewed on a blurry television from twenty feet away), the performance was crap, and the tiny zones and constant load screens were infuriating.
It's worth playing once (preferably with John P's high-res textures), but I think the frequent load times alone are enough to keep me from playing through it again. They really are a constant frustration.
