So I just watched a classic movie on HBO,
Greedy, starring Kirk Douglas, Michael J. Fox, Phil Hartman; and there was this scene that makes one realize just how important swearing is. LOL. The movie is about this old rich asshole (Kirk Douglas) with a bunch of greedy family members wanting a piece of his fortune, and the all the pathetic, demented things they go through trying to get it.
So at crunch time
(scene starts at 1:28:11 for anyone interested) the family is gathered for a signing ceremony where the old man's fortune is going to be signed over to them. And the lawyer announces that the old man has lost it all, and is in fact in debt $95,000.
The room is silent, and the lawyer says "I fear this has come as a shock to you."
To which the Phil Hartman character responds "No, shitting a sailboat, that's a shock. This is a fucking catastrophe!"
Now you take out those swear words, and I swear (lol) that's just not as funny, or effective.
So swearing is not only healthy, it's at times necessary! LOL
