rampancy: Bump. There have been some substantial changes made to Wineskin as of late, and I've updated my Wineskin tutorial accordingly. For people who want to download premade wrappers, they're available from both The Porting Team forums, and from PaulTheTall's website.
Thanks for the update. Unfortunately I haven't touched Wineskin in awhile - I probably should go download the latest version!

htown1980: does the above post seem like spam to anyone? or is it just me?
avatar
crazy_dave: the above posts about "free mac games" and "mac disk recovery" (EDIT: if someone is confused, offending posts now deleted by TET) are probably spam and frankly I don't even want to click the links in case they are malware traps, but because I don't want to click them it is kind of hard to verify what they are :/ but nonetheless I would say they would probably qualify as spam

I reported them - GOG can decide what they are :/
My list is not Spam! It is a list of my personal games hosted on my google docs account to make it easier to maintain and share and other people are quite fond of it.

I did not see your post before in this thread, as I abandoned WINE and CXG long ago for
Bootcamp.

...and I really like it when people without clues are ranting about...

dyscode: ...
There was an actual spam post that htown1980 was referring to (which wasn't your post); one of the GOG staffers took notice and deleted it, hence why you can't see it anymore. :)

hey, sorry for the confusion, i should have made my post clearer. As rampancy said, there was a post between yours and mine which was spammy and was deleted by the gog staff (which means that my post no longer makes sense).

I wasn't referring to your post as being spam [i am not a crazy person :)]. I might see if i can edit my post to make it clearer.

All the best.

I tried to point out in my EDIT from awhile ago that the posts I was referring to as spam were deleted - as mentioned by rampancy and htown yours was not the post I or htown referred to as spam

Question, since this is the most relevant place I can think to ask: I see a lot on WineHQ about testing the Steam versions. How exactly does that work? Steam won't even let me download the PC version to a Mac. And then there's the issue of verification. Do people just install Steam into a Wineskin or something and download it from Steam THROUGH the Wineskin?

Since nobody had make an reply to your question, I'll try to answer you. Install Wineskin Winery and then download a reasonable stable wine engine into winery, eg wine 1.4.1; create a new wineskin wrapper.
Inside the wineskin wrapper, use winetricks to enable steam.
Launch steam as an application, wait for steam to complete its updating & setup your steam account.
Logon to your account & initiate installation of your steam game.

Edit: forgot to mention the need to wait for steam to complete its updating

Just got Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics through GoG's winter promo (along with a score of other cool games) and am so glad I found this thread. Fallout runs okay on my i7 MBP, but it spikes its fan really dang high (stop me if you've heard this one...), so I'm interested in learning if I can make these games run better on it. Thanks for all your help, folks.

If you don't get help here, you might also try the WIneHQ forums for any tips or tricks.
