jasonpsage: I bought my first game from GOG and I love how there were some prepared
open source games for painless free download and installation not to mention how awesome the distribution set up is!
silviucc: Please excuse my ignorance. Which games on GoG are open source?
Hi there - been a while since I visited - I forget which ones are open source - but it was one or more of the free ones you get ... for example Ultima IV is open source - you can grab it at sourceforge or you can just click on it in your account "game shelf"... at least I have it... I hope you do!

HiPhish: Duke Nukem 3D, Descent 1 & 2 and Arx Fatalis come to my mind. just because a game is open source that doesn't mean it's actually free. just the game's programming code is free, while all the actual content (graphics, sound, levels) are still commercial. This has allowed the aforementioned games to receive great modern updates that improve the playability and make the games run natively on modern systems instead of being emulated through DOSBox:
eDuke32 DXX-Rebirth Arx Libertatis (there is more games, but those are the ones that come to my mind)
Yes this is true in some cases - I've seen this too - specifically the Decent ones but I can see how/why there are projects like this.
Sometimes companies just open source it all - kinda a polite abandon thing... this is better - but both are cool for reasons stated above: Tech Updates :)

Ok - This entry is odd cuz I'm answering two folks specific - (but I do like how this forum works - individual replies and consolidated? Nice touch.) - and now to all of you: Thank you for the warm welcome - and I'm happy there is a cool community here - perhaps I'll start hanging out here more often - you certainly laid out the red carpet!
Thank You!
