Happy, National Poultry Day - March 19, 2014

Cheer's to freedom to raise our own !
Cheer's that local farms may raise them for us !
Cheer's for farm fresh foods !

- a Freedom Lullaby

Oh but it might be, that in my neck of the woods, it would be that we were free to enter small-scale local Poultry production...

An Urban Backyard raising 50 egg-laying Hens to feed a flock of neighbors. Another raising meat birds. Yet others providing poultry producers the kind of high nutrient food which makes for most nutritious end product - this Chicken Food comes from the waste-stream from human food cultivation. The chickens wastestream, becomes high nutrient soil enrichment. A big win over status quo factory farms.

Safe, Sustainably Sane, Economically Enriching
Not everywhere legal, yet.
Shame.

So, are you supposed to abstain from eating poultry products or just only eat poultry products?

I'm having Chicken tonight regardless, and at least once a week for the rest of my life.

Just like pigs, they are one tasty animal.

Those yours? WAY COOL and a beautiful cat. My mother wanted some chickens for our B&B but the county said no for fear we might try selling eggs so we had to settle on three miniature donkeys which are way bigger but don't really produce anything. :D

Yep, they number among my Furred and Feathered, Friends and Neighbors ; - )

Perhaps the Donkeys serve the B&B charm? Sleigh Rides for the Holidays, elements of a "Homestead Week", aspects of menagerie?

Shame, for the law to prevent such freedom. Meals of egg and chicken, harvested within the hour, at a cozy Bed and Breadfast, is a most healthy pleasure. Not to mention economically, environmentally, and communally sound.
The chicken who was my best friend when I was 6 ended up on my plate. When my granddad pointed this out to me, it was a moment that scarred me for life. Now a veggie...
