So, someone was asking about the lovely Kuso-Ge shovelware retail title 'Life With Horses 3D' on Miiverse, Nintendo's child friendly, sterile, underwhelming, and gimped social network thing.

They said they had a horse, and wondered if this game would be any fun. I told them to save 30 quid and look into our winter sale and buy something of worth like Creatures, so they could instead raise a fictional pet with virtual DNA.

Sure, my post is likely to get deleted by the mysterious moderators, but considering that they put that community up first instead of Fire Emblem, Ocarina of Time 3D, or a single virtual console title, that's Nintendo's fault.

Have any of you advertised on GOG's behalf on other sites, even perhaps on direct competitors?
Most of GOGs competitors do not have forums to advertise on.... otherwise i would do it a lot.... considering people here have no issue advertising a competitor's product/store on various threads on here especially on GOG release threads *sigh* and yes it happens all the time...
I tell people I meet about GOG, after we talk a bit about old games.

What services don't have forums?
I did, mostly during GoG the first year of existence and at the time it was mostly to say : "no GoG is not a fraud if they sell old game that's because they got the rights for them" or "no abandonware games are not free there is nothing wrong with selling them" or the always popular "no GPL doesn't make it illegal/immoral to sell Dosbox/Scumm using games".

Not sure if that qualify as "advertising" though :-)
I have told people I work with about this site, mentioned it to many a developer and publisher whilst basically begging for a game to be released DRM-free.
I have also given away keys to friends that are GOG keys, but I would not hold high hopes for high sales from them. As mostly my friends have Steam games and all enjoy playing the most modern of games for the 2-4 months they are relevant.

Darvond: What services don't have forums?
GMG - very small
GG - see above
GGG - never seen one
HS - none
IG/BS/ - none
Origin - none
Uplay - havent checked
IGS - forums sparsely populated
Desura - probably the next populated after Steam and GOG

That's quite an interesting insight. I thought most people would be getting to the point where AAA had burned them so much that they'd be seeking older titles.
I tell people the benefits of using GOG, but I do that for the half dozen or so services I use to buy games. Always find it weird when people become fixated on a single service, or product.

Because some people are a bit more loyal than others & want to see this service to grow vs competition. Its a business out there and while its great to push every store, some of us are more one eyed than the rest, after all this is the GOG forums....

Sorry, but most of my work colleagues and my friends are the types of people who own a PC, Xbox, PS3, Vita, 3DS and a WiiU just so they can play the must own games on that console.
Hell 5 of the guys I work with all bought the COD:Ghosts because it was new and even though they always complain about how it is not as good as the last one they are all still playing that.

One work colleague even befriended all 3 of my Steam friends just so they could play online PC games with them, and after my brother and I both got Magicka from HB last week (it was too good to pass at a dollar), one bought the game and keeps bugging me to join him and my brother in their gaming weekends. The best part is although I told him about HB he still buys the games direct from Steam(!!!)
I talk to other people about it, but most people are loyal to the big corps and have the "I find it weird when people prefer one thing over the other" (hah) mentality.

Ah well.
Yep, I'm a GOG predicant ;-)
Sad but true, all the time but no one listens to me.
I also thanked the guy who makes Glidos telling him that I recommend it all the time here and his program is a big hit with GOG gamers. I don't know how true that is but the guy cut me a good deal on the package so I do what I can.

I will say this HINT HINT, if I had a shirt or hat I'd wear the shit out of that bad boy!

Every time I get a good game or there is a good sale on GOG, I tell my friends.
