Even people who initially intend to do "grab and runs" might end up sticking around and spending some money. I only signed up for GOG to get a free legal copy of "Martian Dreams" - just over a year later, and I own more than half their catalogue. (And I still haven't played Martian Dreams. :p)

Often the biggest hurdle to buying from a site is that making yet another account is just slightly more effort than you can be bothered with. Giving people an incentive to get over that initial hurdle will almost certainly result in some additional purchases, even from those who didn't plan on making them.

mistermumbles: I view it more as a big middle finger directed at Bethesda. ;)

MaximumBunny: Correct. I don't think Bethesda will be quick to make a deal with GOG after this. xP
Something tells me that Bethesda would be unwilling to deal with GOG anyway, so why should Interplay not go out with a bang with one of their biggest IP's.

TDP: I don't think that's how it'll be for most people. They'll see a list of games... their list... and will want to add more cool games to it. The biggest hurdle is getting people to take the time to create an account. They needed some incentive, and free games is a great incentive. :)

Gotta love gog.com! DRM-free for life.
I love lists of "stuff". I need to stop myself from buying games I already own just because I want to see them on a list :D

Right, because before today Bethesda management were fighting each other over who will have the honour to sign the deal with GOG :-P

I suspect that there will be a fair number that will, but I'm pretty certain that others will stay or return after discovering/ realising how much more GOG has to offer.
They shut down the gifting to emails because coupled with the Holiday sale-traffic it annihilated their servers. With the new servers they might re-open said gifting.

If they do bring it back I am hoarding like mad to give to newbies in a year or two. Muahahha.
me! im gonna take the free game and run... down the street!
Take money and run is the thing for most people. Or make like 20 gifts and then try to trade them.
I'm going to remain here=) I have scoped around a few threads and like what I see...no one is arguing or fighting and seems a relaxed atmosphere and I can't just accept free games and run lol plus there are some sweet PC games on here I would love to grab such as Neverwinter Nights,Redneck Rampage and Duke Nukem=)

Or the weekly 'why isn't GOG releasing OLD games more often?' threads.

I still have a Duke key from last time GOG was giving it away. You seem like a cool dude who'll give it a good home, so PM me if you want it :)
I was planning on buying Fallout 2 before January 1st reared it's ugly head, so this giveaway couldn't have had better timing. Also I just realized that about 80% of my catalogue was either gifted to me, is a free game, or bought by my brother. I don't know if I should feel bad about that or not.

Nice one! I have a key for The Witcher that I would be glad to gift over as well. Gotta welcome the new blood. :)

EDIT: And witchy PM sent.
