Join the guys in charge of GOG.com for a chat!

EDIT: The video has ended, but you can check out the recorded stream here (http://www.twitch.tv/gogcom/c/4113792), or just watch the highlights below. Thanks for participating, and be sure to leave us any comments you have on the topics we discussed below! :)

GOG.com is going live on Twitch <span class="bold">today</span> and we'd like to heartily invite all of you to join us. Our founder, Marcin Iwiński (known in the forums as <i>iWi</i>), Piotr Karwowski (<i>Destro</i>), the VP of Online Technologies, and Trevor Longino (<i>TheEnigmaticT</i>), the Head of Marketing and PR, will do their best to answer your questions while remaining at least a bit entertaining, on Tuesday April 22, 6:00PM GMT (that's 2:00 PM EDT and 11:00 AM PDT) in the [url=http://www.twitch.tv/gogcom]<span class="bold">GOG.com Official Twitch.tv Channel</span>.

This wouldn't be--of course--much of a Q&A if they didn't have any questions to answer. We count on you, dear GOGgers, to provide many interesting ones! There has been many interesting things happening around GOG.com, recently, so we're sure many of you have thing you'd like to ask us. There's a few ways to do that. You can ask your questions right here, in the forum thread below. You can sign in to the <span class="bold">Twitch live chat</span> as soon as the livestream starts, and post your thoughts and questions in there. Finally, you can tweet your question to our <span class="bold">@GOGcom Twitter account</span>, with the #GOGtwitch hashtag.

We'll be with you for at least an hour (we may end up going longer!), but that's probably still not enough time to answer all questions. We'll select just the ones we think are most common to the community as a whole, and the most interesting ones as well. After the livestream is done, we'll post a montage of its highlights with just a slight delay needed to put the thing together.

Again, we invite you to <span class="bold">GOG.com Official Twitch.tv Channel</span> today, 6:00PM GMT (that's 2:00 PM EDT and 11:00 AM PDT), and we hope you'll find time to join us. In fact, drop half an hour early to catch our Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure gameplay stream!
Most urgent question:
When will the GOG downloader be able to automatically update my backuped installers? (Hopefully soon.)

Second most urgent question:
What other cool games are coming to GOG in the next time? (Hopefully many)

Third most urgent question:
When will Witcher 3 hit the world? (Hopefully sooner than later)

And some thanks:
Thanks for correcting for stance on regional prices and thanks for supporting Linux!

They post here, you just have to find them :)
Yep, that is the first time I saw a post from IWi in response to when the proverbial s**t hit the fan so to speak. This is very cool though that we get an opportunity to interact with them directly on the Twitch Live stream so I'll try my best not to miss this opportunity. Still have to come up with some life affirming questions first like TinyE's. ;)

phaolo: Well, if you need some questions, I have some here for now:
1- can you add an option to download the original full cd\dvd\floppy image\zip separated from the launcher\emulator?
2- can you clearly specify the current game "version" and also add the original one, when available? (ex: Scummvm+Dosbox)
3- can you improve the site with better update and status info, shelf categories, game advanced sorting, custom tags and rating, friends list, gift checking?
4- can you improve the forums with better search and sorting options, advanced polls, spoiler tags, better rep system?

Thanks :P
Eh.. Those are more requests than questions, don't you think? But they are good ones, I should add. :)
Hope you guys can answer couple of these question since I'm really curious about your company business wise :p (don't worry I'm not a Valve agent)

1) what kind of advice would you guys give to someone who wants to enter the market of digital distribution and doesn't know much about computer programming etc. (being games, music, movies, other services). Since this market is currently very competitive would you recommend a focus strategy where you offer only games/DRM free and older games (like gog and in a way like steam) or do you guys think that it's a good idea to offer more services?

2) Where do you guys see gog in like 3-5 years? Have you guys planned a long term goal and/or have you guys changed or adjusted your initial goal since gog started out?

3) How would you convince bigger publishers that have their own DRM and absolutely want to enforce their DRM policies to offer their titles on gog. Do you approach them by numbers, sales figures or explaining that DRM will harm more costumers that it benefits them etc.

4) Also are you guys still passionate about what you are doing and is the industry still as 'enjoyable' as you guys thought it would be when you first started?

5) What is your opinion on microtransactions and DLC's? Services like SteamOrigin/Uplay allow and stimulate this kind of thing but 10-20 years ago such things did not exists. You only had bigger expansions packs that offered you a totally new experience and hours of new content. Now DLC has been reduced to content that did not make the initial development. Would the guys of CdRed implement such things or do you want to reward people who buy your products by offering them the full experience?

Long questions but I think only you guys can answer them the correct way :3

Err.. I guess.. well, let's call them "some very practical questions" XD
What is the exact GMT that it will be on? Fort example GMT-6?

I'm guessing it's GMT+0? Maybe GMT+1/ECT, since they're in Poland.
1. Please don't make games only downloadable via installer and then updated like a repository, because users might change or mod some local installed files and don't want these files to be overwritten, especially not automatically -.-
2. [Will|do] you work close[r] together with projects like PlayOnLinux to make use of wine wrappers?
3. Which games do you currently play?
4. How can we as users support the idea of DRM-free gaming, other than not buying crippled copies of software?
5. Do you offer support for companies to de-cripple their games if they ask for it?
So... someone didnt understand the SAUSAGE reference / joke... and in getting offended by it actually SAUSAGED the SAUSAGE?! O__o~
I'm curious about your plans for getting Linux ports on GOG. I assume you are going to focus mainly on getting the various indie games with existing ports running, as well as the games that already make use of DOSBox and ScummVM, and perhaps even a few games using Wineskins like System Shock 2.

My question is thus: Do you have plans to get distribution rights for some of the older Linux ports from Loki, RuneSoft and Linux Game Publishing? What about the older first party Linux ports like Unreal Tournament 2004, Serious Sam and Neverwinter Nights?

Loki are responsible for the following ports of games currently in the GOG catalogue:
Alpha Centauri, Descent 3, Heroes of Might and Magic III, Postal, Rune and Unreal Tournament

RuneSoft are responsible for:
Cultures: Northland, Earth 2140, Jack Keane and Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood

Linux Game Publishing are responsible for:
Gorky 17, Knights and Merchants, Postal 2, Sacred: Gold, Shadowgrounds and Shadowgrounds Survivor

Jagged Alliance 2 was also ported to Linux by a company named Tribsoft.

Are you building an alternative to steamworks?

GMT+1 as far as I can tell, although I am more used to US time zones, so double-check to be sure :)
I hope you guys'll take questions here, since there's no way I'm becoming a nitTwit.

* What's GOG going to do to try to get more games in the nebulous "not classic but not new" state, from the early days of DRM?
* How is GOG going to approach the sad onslaught of games that are using Steamworks -- Steam beyond "just" the DRM component of it -- that makes them permanently locked in? This relates to the recent shutdown of GameSpy. Might GOG partner with another middleware company to encourage developers to use them instead of Steamworks?
* What's GOG doing now that Windows XP is EOLed, yet so many games out there don't work with a newer OS?
