Basically the title. I've heard mixed things about this one, but all of the reviews have been disturbing to me. On the high end they say it has excellent story and atmosphere. On the low end they say its an over glorified walking simulator with a story thrown in.

I wasn't pleased to hear about the removal of the insanity meter and inventory. Since constantly worrying about running out of tinderboxes became my obsession during the game. The thought of a light that never dies and simplified puzzles makes me hesitant to buy this.

So this is a call out to anyone who has played this. Is it worth getting during the sale?

In my opinion (and also going by the criteria you've listed) it is not worth it at the current sale price.

It's not terrible (some of the haters are going way too far) but then again it's not that great either. Knowing what I know now I'd have picked it up if it were on sale for $5 or $6, but not at the current $13. (For reference, I paid the preorder price of $15 -- that was definitely way too much.)

Personally I thought the story (well, certain parts of the story at least) was one of its weaker points. But if I discuss why it's spoiler territory so I guess I can't go into that.

So, I would say, don't write it off entirely, but don't buy it until it goes on deep discount either.
A resounding no.Short length, almost no scares, the gameplay is indeed a walking simulator(with a few piss poor easy puzzles)and the story is a pretentious mess.Jessica Curry's score is good and that's about the only thing that was good.
Expect thechineseroom, don't expect Frictional. It's still enjoyable and very atmospheric; however, it's more about painting a picture of a specific time and place than it is about prompting a constant feeling of dread.
The developers are working on a new title though but not Amnesia. It's called SOMA and this time it's a more sci-fi oriented. Still 'survival horror'...

You can always try Amnesia demo's to judge for yourself I guess. But know that the games are rather short.
