Looks cool, Although I'm a bit confused. Is this going to be a single-player RPG or a MMORPG. I hope this Kickstart project suceeds. It's good to see games from my teenage years reappear, Hail Lorf British!

Edit: It's an MMO that can be played offline. Interesting.

Point Man: And " For the record… I have been and remain a PC game developer! I have never been in charge of a game that was not first and foremost a PC game! Sometimes we have ported the games to a variety of other platforms, but the PC remains central to my core sensibilities."

Arteveld: nitpicking:
Well, Ultima was developed on an Apple with Apple in mind.;>
[i know, we can stretch the term PC beyond the IMB PC standard to all 'desktop computers', but still...]
It's not a stretch. 'Personal computer' is historically a generic term, though it may be hard to remember thanks to all other major PC platforms going extinct.

Some examples:

An amusingly arrogant Apple ad from 1981: "Welcome, IBM. Seriously."

A Commodore Ad from 1983: "If personal Computers are for everybody, how come they're priced for nobody?"

Introducing Atari 800 Personal Computer System.

I'm still trying to decryp this. Can someone help me?

Elmofongo: And if he was just making another WOW clone why would he be going to kickstarter?
Well, kickstarter is a good to host ideas if you have a great reputation but I doubt it's a WoW clone. If they seamlessly add the interaction between single player and multiplayer (you can basically jump in and out without issues) I think they might be able to make something interesting.

Naah. This doesn't look interesting at all.

Crosmando: I'm going to bed, if any of you gentlemen contribute to this I will be disappointed.
Prepare to be disappointed. ;p

Fesin: Really bad pledges. 100$ just to get digital artbook and soundtrack?

Also, I really dislike the vague Kickstarter projects. "We're going to do a revolutionary RPG. How, you ask? By doing everything better, of course. Now give me the money!" I've definitly seen too much of them.
I agree completely. I was very dissatisfied with his Kickstarter page. What he had to show didn't look good. And what he said sounded like crap.

Essentially: "We're going to create a randomly generated world and then you're going to run around in it. Just like in the olden days!"

No thanks.

Yes, i know, historically it's accurate; my favorite example is the Amstrad CPC (Colour Personal Computer), but the modern meaning is different, the distincion startyed around the time the IBM PC standard became dominant, and people started shortening the term to "PC" and You'd get "Amigas and PCs" even though, technically, they were both PCs. The original meaning was shifter to "desktop computers" i guess.

You need the full context:

Lol, he still has millions, he lives in a mansion for christsakes, he could easily fund this game out of his own pocket, he just wants to dupe people into people for it for him

Translation:
Hahaha! He is filthy stinking rich! He is so rich he lives in a monastery for the sake of God Almightty! He could use church funds to pay for this game, but his monk robes have no pockets to carry the funds to the Gamemakers Guild. So he will need to duplicate people via genetic cloning in order to build a team which will, in turn, build a game.

Note: Just to be sure there's no ill will, I'm just playing around. I know it was but a simple typo. Game on!

Offline solo and online multi, yes. Not MMO.

Well, just come from watching a phone interview on gameswelt.tv betwenn felix rick and Lord British. But as far as I heard his Majesty speaking in full presence, I wouldn't kill a dead cat for what he was telling. I had more the impression, that this was only a trial to tell many words to cover everyones likes but nothing in concrete.

Personally I fear, this is a direct reaction, after I wrote them NC-Soft guys, that I need help to deinstall my Lineage II - Version, which I never really played and never really was interested in. Yepp, Lineage II - don't aks me, which Version really, the confused and messed that up so completely, in the typical manner of NC-Soft and MMORPG's ( except for the Guild-Wars-franchise). It's really hard to believe: They were able to spoil up even a game like Auto-Assault by doing only an absolutely minimalistic job, which minimalistic graphics and so on. And also with Tabula Rasa, which was announced in soo big overlifesized letters.. - and what came out? Well I even had more fun with Star Wars Galaxies than with that Tabula Rasa piece of ....

The only thing I guess from an interview, may be, that it seems to me, that Lord British seems to have necesseray some more money and since his reputation is highest for fantasystile RPG's he announces something of that kind.
But as far as now, I really wouldn't kill a dead cat.....

Sorry folks for my many typing errors, I'll try to do better next time.

Here's an interview with some more info on the game: http://sota.ultimacodex.com/interview-with-richard-garriott/

Seems VERY interesting so far. I'll pledge when I'll have the money for it.
I can't really say that this Kickstarter works for me. I'm a bit confused of the nature of this game as well, as it does look to be heavily mmo.
Looks like a run of the mill WOW clone. Might be interesting in the end, but it really looks dull to me from what has been shown.
I do think it will be funded none the less. But as said, I'll pass.
