lespectraal: So if I were to continue using it the adapter will catch fire? What about the laptop? Will it be damaged? I'm really seriously desperate to continue my games on my laptop now.. I was hoping that I could just continue using the adapter but with added precautionary steps so as to minimize the overall chances of getting into problems as I finish my gaming.
Without knowing why or how specifically the adapter is broken it's hard to say what the risks are. But anytime you have something like an adapter that's mis-wired you're running the possibility of a short circuit, if there isn't already one.
But, laptops do catch fire from time to time due to circuit problems and the last thing you want is to improperly charge the battery.
As I indicated, without actually disassembling the adapter and identifying what the problem is it's really hard to say what the actual risks are. It's better to assume that it's dangerous and be proven wrong than to have the thing case serious injury.
Plus, it doesn't take much voltage to electrocute a person. A surprising number of people are electrocuted as the result of dropping their corded telephone into the bathtub while they're taking a bath.
