Dischord: I always liked the look of the Crusader games, and have a couple sitting, unopened, because of their DRM schemes, along with some Silent Hunter games.

Became careful of what I bought after that :-) Saw Crusader on here, but not listed as Win7/64 compatible but might 'play' with it in the future.

serpantino: Silent Hunter 4 (Wolves of the Pacific) was very good but you do spend a hell of a lot of time just moving.... 5 is the one with the dodgy UbiDRM. Crusader runs in DOSbox & AFAIK there's no problems running that on win 7 x64
Thanks for the heads up on Crusader, will buy it after I dl what I bought last week during the sale.

It's kind of funny to see alot of these titles again. I used to run a BBS when the net was almost all Telnet and Fidonet for messages, drop boxes, etc. Funny how things evolved.

Most got better with the advent of the www, but DRM evolved to be worse. The Total War series I used to enjoy, but totally ignore now due to their linkage to online schemes.
My Favorite old(er) games to play that I keep playing that GOG doesn't have (yet) are:
Freelancer, Darklands, Rome Total War, Knights of Honor, Heroes Chronicles, Morrowind, Civilization 2, Diablo, Star Trek a Final Unity, Siege of Avalon
I could go on, sorry, I just couldn't put one down. Most recent install would be Freelancer and would be right now(this thread has convinced another install outta me)! I never get tired of playing that game...Once I install it on a computer it stays on till said computer is fried and buried. I mean with 500 GB you just have to fill it up with game goodness don't you?

Rome Total War was epic in design and delivery, with a great score to set the mood as you progressed. It is one of the games I installed, kept on, and revisited as each faction.

Recently found an extensive/professional mod, Roma Surrectum II, that I was quite impressed with. Simply copied/pasted my whole RTW directory structure to a clone grouping, installed the mod, and played away. Was quite impressed by all of the additional units and factions much more representative of tribes within regions such as Gaul and Germanica.

Edit for typo.

Xcom UFO defence, Wizardry 8, Dungeon Lords, X-Wing, Tie-Fighter, X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter + Expansion, Star Trek Starfleet Academy, Star Trek TNG A Final Unity and some others I can't recall at the moment. All installed ATM
Thief Gold. Closely followed by System Shock II.

My two favourite mods for Rome Total War are Extended Realism (expands the map all the way to India), and Europa Barbarorum (even bigger map, more realistic governments and recruitment). Both are amazing and provide months of gameplay.

No problem.

Was impressed by the attention to detail, the revolts (you'll immediately be in one, aggravating later, but enuff said), and the extensive work done to really expand the game.

Run in compat mode, or save often, if in Win7.

Enjoy!

I keep waiting for new version of Europa Barbaroram, as I think it is scholarly in the research done to make it realistic.

Thanks for reminding me about this one!

The Neverhood.

My old CD is getting a bit worn out though. Been playing it once a year since -96. :)

Finally for Wizardry 7 installed and have been playing it for a few days now. Man, what a supremely complex game, and what a love for detail, and good writing. At the same time, some unbearably hokey stuff too, like the names.
Tried RollerCoaster Tycoon today - again.
Hope Gog will release it some day.
All the ass kissing i've been doing here must be good for something right?

Wiz7 is probably the hardest game I've ever played, but lots of fun.

Get ready for the Rattkin and Savant Troopers early in the game! I spent quite awhile in the weeds looking for treasure chests and fighting before I could deal with the early troublemakers!

So true! And a lot of the puzzles and tasks make no sense. It's enough to drive you nuts fast. But rewarding at the same time.

Some things I never did find, or there were no followups to.

Beat it twice, each time a bitch. By far, hardest bosses were in the house of gorrors, quite awhile into the game.

The nice part is no time limits, and a pretty big world to explore to gain xp. Battles are not scaled though, so its easy to get killed struggling too far off.

Lots I can remember, but don't want to spoil it. Save often, as instant death can/will likely visit.
Dare to Dream 3! I would love to play the other games in the series though.
You Don't Know Jack: The Ride.
