It's effin' German, not Dutch.
It is good to see it doesn't completely suck though.

Always thought it stood for Dutch-e :P ..Kidding.
nice! a very good first review score, that's a relief.

i'm a bit disappointed that the game only lasts some 15 hours, though. i guess with the game only costing $15 that was to be expected, but still... it'll be over all too soon, especially for an RPG.

I think I read somewhere that they are going to release modding tools later on so that should extend the game somewhat.

Eye of the Beholder had one level less (EoB - 12, LoG - 13) and as far as I can remember it took me much longer than 15 hours to finish the game :D Tip: turn off automap and needed amount of time will greatly increase :D
Not a bad review.A couple of things. Wonder if they took time to explore, or just powered through?. Hehe no skill point reset :).Actually a better review style imho than many of the other sites. Clear concise. To the point. No willywashy bullcrap.:)

Off-topic and a hint: when using Google translator, use it only to translate from non-English language to English (or vice versa), not from a non-English language to non-English.

It appears to me how Google translator works in the latter cases is that it always first translates it to English, and then a second time to the target language. That means there are two points of failure instead of just one.

I found that out when I translated e.g. a text with the word meaning "patient" (as in, "not testy") from one non-English language to another, and Google tried to convince me it was something about a person who's hospitalized. It took me awhile to figure out it was because of the English double-meaning for the word "patient", which didn't exist in the source and target languages.

I was also wondering about the length of the game, which is one of the reasons I didn't feel like preordering (the other one was high HW requirements that I don't meet yet).

Good to know how long it is, because especially with indie games you never seem to know how much gameplay you get (even if the playing hours is only one variable, not telling how much grinding and backtracking there is etc.).

It just struck me that when I played the indie RTS-light game Swords & Soldiers, during the first day (maybe a couple of hours of playing), I had already completed one third of the game. So the game would definitely be completed in one weekend, if I really concentrated on it.

And Portal of course, which for a slow gamer like me took maybe one day in all. But, I paid only peanuts for S&S in Humble Bundle, and Portal I got for free, so I'm not complaining or anything...

15 hours for Grimrock... maybe that's not too bad because it probably means three months in my gaming time. :)

I'm also kinda glad to learn there were only four people working on the game, even if it means it is missing spoken dialogue, FMV etc. Referring to the "spiraling costs of game development" discussion yesterday. Back to the basics, this is how more and more games should be created.

it took me 22 hours to beat skyrim..

Tiefood: it took me 22 hours to beat skyrim..
protip: Skyrim and similar games aren't about actually 'beating' them...

Oblivion can be beat in a few hours, yet i've invested 120 hours in a single playthrough.

problem with Grimrock is that it's fairly linear and ships with only one dungeon. it's not like Skyrim or Gothic 3 where you can spend entire days (real-time!) just scowering the wilderness and cities for quests and treasure.

still, the Grimrock devs have said they'd create additional content post-release if the game was successful enough, and looking at it's popularity, i'd figure it will be successful enough alright.

One doesn't beat Skyrim... One lives it.

Morrowind can be beaten in 7½min. (Major spoiler video!)

And I think the longevity of Grimrock will depend a lot on its map editor, which they have said that they will release. If it is powerful (and user friendly) enough, then this might a game that will last for years.
And 15h for $15 is not bad. Not great, mind you, but not bad.
