stg83: Although I can really help you with something to play now but like Ixamyakxim mentioned there is a highly ambitious game in the works which may be exactly what you have imagined and would like to play. Here are some more details regarding the game:

No Man’s Sky: how a four-person team from Guildford strode forth to create an entire universe
I had no clue they're from Guildford! I have a soft spot for that town...

*edit* And ENR thanks for both the Futurama reference AND location of PE - might have to check it out.

stg83: but at least you will be happy to know that there is a game out their that pretty much meets your extraordinary requirements. :)
I don't even know if I want to click on those links, with no release date it'd just be like water torture. I do have MANY unanswered questions about the game though -- MUST... RESIST!

tinyE: Am I the only one who is a combination of horrified and turned on by that robot? :P
That robot looks vaguely familiar...

Yeah, dude, always helpful to know what you don't want. My own grievance with many of these games is the cartoony, sel shading, or pixel aesthetics; I wouldn't mind a space exploration/survival/crafting game with spaceships and all, but with photorealistic aesthetics.

I don't care about the camera perspective that much, though.

And yet another scary thing - a line I explicitly recall from the article I read was something like "coming to unanounced consoles..." and some of the "bullet points" sounded like they might be trying to push Microsoft's MMORPG server side compu... errrr totally new and different "cloud" aspects. So the thing might never even hit PC (I know for the moment I'm all set with consoles and after 10 long years my Live Account will be ending this month *tear*).
Just finished reading all those articles about No Man's Sky

they leave a lot more questions than answers, that's for sure however, the proclamation regarding the absence of traditional multi-player leaves me feeling a little cagey. I now have doubts in No Man's Land's presumed 'holy grail' factor. I'm going collect my thought and come back to this, I going to fire up a few of these suggested demos in the interim.

Stay Gog-y folks!
