Being a wraith (or being able to transform into one) is the stupidest most lore-breaking thing. Wraiths are essentially blind, they can only see in terms of shadows, they can't identify between say a person or a tree or any other object. That's how Frodo was able to hide from the Ringwraith behind that tree root without it being able actually see him, it only stuck around because it could faintly sense the ring.

The only thing Ringwraiths can see are spirits/shadows, and of course the Ringbearer if he puts the ring on and becomes invisible (like at Weathertop).

Wraiths are also powerless without their cloaks/horses, which is what binds them, and why they were "defeated" when they got washed away in the river flood called down by Elrond.
For these wondering about the pc version. some new info popped up. http://shadowofmordor.wikia.com/wiki/Thread:4489

Just did some poking around to make sure, and right now our plan is to absolutely launch the PC version on Steam.
Looks uninspired and derivative as hell.
New trailer. This could be the next best thing that happened to monolith since NOLF :p
The voice actor is really good.

Damn! I was just getting excited too :(
They haven't all been inspired, but there has been some pretty good Lord of the Rings games (Battle for Middle Earth, Return of the King was awesome fun for a hack-n-slash)... its been too long though. I'd agree there really should be a full, long RPG world focusing more on exploration and quests and characters to interact with. Lots of untapped potential there.

This could be interesting, except that it looks like it has one of the most unTolkien-like stories imaginable.
New combat trailer for those who are interested :)

Watched it a couple of hours ago, looks interesting.
Not particularly in line with what I remember of LoTR, but interesting.

yeah rather see people do something unique en offer a new story in the LoTR setting than copy pasting the movies and the books without any inspiration. There is still not a good LoTR game imo, with nice RPG elements and an epic story. Then again the books are far more interesting I guess so no one can outdone them :p

You misunderstand me, it doesn't look like it fits in what I remember of the universe.
It looks almost a bit like they stuffed Dr Manhattan or the Green Lantern into a LoTR game.

Then how come they are so feared? After reading your description, they sound harmless.

Because they can't be killed and they're terrifying spirits obviously. They are just Sauron's tool to search for the One Ring, they aren't some military tool like an army. Sauron obviously couldn't send orcs to recover the Ring because they're stupid and wouldn't make it far, also he doesn't seem to control orcs directly in the same way he controls the ringwraiths. Wraiths can sense the ring at all times, so Sauron was just waiting for the Ring Bearer to submit to the corruption of the ring and put it on, so the Wraiths could locate him.
