A few days ago I finally located the name of a certain old coin op/arcade game that I recall seeing only once in my life as a small kid (it was in a spa where my parents took me), which I had been trying to locate for more than a decade. The game was Moon Shuttle, and I came by it accidentally earlier this week:

I already thought that is the last old game which I'm trying to remember, but still seeking for one:

I recall an Amiga side-scrolling shoot'em up, somewhere in 1988-1990 probably, where I mostly remember that there were tiny red pearls blocking your way, and you had to shoot them in order to make way through the caverns. A bit like how you have to shoot your way through the asteroids in the aforementioned Moon Shuttle game, except that it was a scrolling game.

I don't recall much else from it, mainly those red shiny pearls you had to shoot. I don't recall if they were in all the levels, or was it only a certain level where they were. Probably in several levels, considering they stuck to my mind.

Moon Cresta was always my favourite Nichibutsu 'Moon series' shooter, for the docking parts and the cool way your 3 lives were different parts of the ship

As for the game you're looking for - could it be Armalyte - The Final Run?

Ghorpm: Phalanx perhaps?
Nope, but I think I got it: Sarcophaser

I tried to find it earlier from Mobygames, but the problem was there were no screenshots there. But I just noticed now they mentioned you have to shoot your way through "dots", and yep Youtube showed it was the same game.

I'll mark your message as the solution anyway, as you were the first to say anything.

timppu: <snip>
The problem with balls is that a lot of Amiga games used them (together with scaling effects) to create a 3D effect, so I believe a lot of shooters had them.

The side-scrolling shooters I can remember having them are:

Project-X
Overkill
Slayer (possibly)
Disposable Hero
Armalyte
Denaris
