I tried both and thought GC was much better than GC2.. GC2 was too starcraftified.
I just hated that GC1 had no save.. if it'd had that it'd have been one of the best games ever.

thornton_s: Me too. I end up buying so many of them and giving up because i suck at them.
On a scale of 1-5 ( 1 being hardest ) how does this rate ?

gbarules2999: The game's difficulty, if you set it to easy, is really, really easy. I'm a baby when it comes to RTS games, and I was very comfortable.

Me too. Thats why i always ask for ratings as i like them but aren't that great at them.

El_Caz: Minor question: I remember not buying this game because it had no in mission saving. Sometimes I am not the master of my own time and replaying a mission from scratch because i couldn't save it never interested me. I only read about this though, so I'm not sure if with the expansion this "feature" was removed or if it even existed at all?
If I can save anytime, I'll keep the game on my wishlist (since I'm broke at the moment)

The original game didn't have any sort of saves during missions. I remember that irked me a lot, i dunno if the expansion added a save feature when playing missions.

I just finished World in Conflict the other day, and yeah, that game got pretty rough. Not sure it was rougher than Ground Control, though since, as people have been mentioning, Ground Control didn't have mid-mission saves, while World in Conflict at least let you save anywhere you liked.
And I remember the "Dark Conspiracy" or whatever it was called, expansion pack for the original GC was released free. But I guess that was only for people who, at the time, owned the original game and like sent away for it and paid for the shipping and handling. I'm pretty sure that's what I did.

Just looked it up online and apparently the expansion doesn't have an in game save feature either. Been looking up if there's a patch or a tweak or a way to do it and haven't found any.
I'm married. When the wife calls, sometimes I just have to quit the game and saving is a must. At least in this game you start off with all your troops and you don't waste time teching or building.

Yeah, that was pretty much the signature "feature" of the series. It was -all- about the tactics of the engagement. From what units you'd choose to load into your dropships, to when you wanted those dropships deployed to the battlefield, to the tactics of the actual fight itself. That's all you had control over, but it's all you -needed- to control to give the game the depth it needed to be satisfying.
I looooooooove this game. I bought it a long time ago but lost the discs so I just downloaded the free version, but there's no expansion so I looked here! What timing =D
Simply one of the best RTTs ever. The only complaint I would have is that it sometimes encourages you to play a bit too slow (can get tedious), but it's a problem for all games where tactics are super important.
The two female characters in the game are some of the best written in any game. They're not there to fill the 'sexy' quota they're just good, believable characters, which is more than you can say for most female characters in games.
In its genre I would say that this game is only second to Myth II. It's too bad neither Myth II nor GC were ever continued properly =/. Anyway, buy this game! You can always try the free version first
Ground Control is free on FilePlanet, you can save money just downloading it there. And don't tell me that if I got it here I would get the expansion pack as well. I've already been told that via twitter.
If the selling point is just the expansion pack, then why not sell the expansion pack separately?
EDIT: I noticed that Sierra made the expansion pack free for owners of the first game. Sure it says boxed, but if you own the first game then according to the announcement, you can get the expansion for free.

A few things -
GOG is not selling expansions separately. This is a part of our approach. We don't want our users to buy addon/expansion that will require original game to be purchased before.(and believe me even if we write about it on a product page on top, there will be customers who'll buy it and only then realize they need to buy original game first).
GOG is testing all the games and making them XP&Vista compatible, even if it is a free game. We're not releasing them "as it is".
Based on this do you understand why we're selling the game+expansion? :-)
