So on Steam they added a new achievement for Trine: it requires to launch the Enchanted Edition of the game.
So...maybe there's a new version of the game here, let's see.
I think it's simple Trine 1 with the engine from Trine 2.
Sounds intriguing, although my laptop can just about run the original Trine with all settings turned down. I never got to play Trine 2 before my PC died, but seeing as it's on PSPlus for PS4 right now, I may well have to give it a shot.

Still, I'll certainly keep an eye on this if it really is Trine 1 with the Trine 2 engine.

I liked Trine 1 more, maybe because was fresh air, but Trine 2 is very good too, with a great art direction.
As an overall generalization, I stopped enjoying platform games when other more interesting genres of games came out in the 90s such as groundbreaking games like Wolfenstein 3D, DOOM, and all those that they spawned afterward, and RTS games like Command & Conquer, Warcraft etc. and many many other genres. The platformer type games didn't stop appealing to me per se, they just vanished from my consciousness that had been replaced by newer concepts and experiences. They seemed to just vanish. Now I fast forward through close to two decades of more or less platformerless experiences and observations and suddenly there are 18 million new platform games coming out every 10 minutes LOL. I don't hate them, nor even dislike them. I just find so many other games more interesting that platformers are now generally very low on my curiousity list and generally seem kind of boring to me overall compared to the experience I personally get from RTS, FPS, TPP games as well as simulators, RPGs, and other strategy games etc.

Now... having said all of that... then came along Trine. What a beautiful looking game! The screenshots alone made me more curious what it was all about and the trailer showed some very nice animation of the characters and beautiful artwork and 3D engine usage. My mind did not even see a platformer game, it just saw an interesting looking very artistic game that kind of reminded me of Pitfall in some ways or Jungle Hunt. But I didn't even think "those were platformers too Mike you know..." to myself. I basically got tricked by the nice artwork into beign curious about a platformer game without even thinking of it as one. :)

It came up on sale for $1-2 some day so I bought it and gave it a whirl and it seemed very interesting, and more like a different kind of simplified aRPG of sorts. The puzzles and gameplay was actually rather entertaining. In the end, I ended up completely solving the game and enjoyed the whole experience enough that I went out and bought Trine 2 Complete in a Steam sale during winter or such for $1 and finished that entire game also (and part of the bonus stuff that I got sidetracked from and need to go back to).

Both games were pretty fun and so I decided that I'd keep an eye out for other platformers that seem to climb to the very top of the popularity pile for the genre even though I haven't really tried many of the others yet. I decided that I'd give Braid, Fez, and Super Meat Boy a whirl even though none of them appealed to me in any major way, but they seem immensely popular I figured so why not give them a shot. Well, I've got and tried Fez and had a bit of fun with it I suppose you could say but it wore off after a while and I never finished it. Overall, not my thing but was a way to kill some time. I haven't gotten Braid or Super Meat Boy yet, but will probably eventually get them in some super blowout sale for $1 or so, or some bundle somewhere etc. I try to keep an open mind anyway.

I definitely however would be very interested in a Trine 3 or some other type of sequel, or additional bonus materials or addons for Trine 1 or 2 as they were genuinely fun and interesting, required some thought and had genuine creativity in their presentation and gameplay. They definitely shine high above the 10 billion other sweatshop platformers that are blasted onto Steam through a firehose 24/7 anyway.

Definitely a breath of fresh air to an ancient game genre that generally doesn't seem to offer anything appealing to those outside of it's niche fan base. :)
I've played Trine 1 to completion, but not Trine 2 yet, so I don't really know if there are major improvements.

Is there a benefit to the "enchantment"? For me it's nearly flawless as it is.
Looks like I came to the wrong thread. Thought this was Trainspotting :)

"Hi SkeletonBow,

We’re starting out with a beta on Steam because that’s the easiest platform to update. Right now we’re gathering feedback and rolling out updates based on the feedback and known issues.

We will release Trine Enchanted Edition on GOG, Humble and other DRM-free platforms, once it is officially released and out of beta, and as ready as possible.

I hope you understand and sorry for the wait!"

Super Meat Boy is indeed a platformer where quick reflexes are very important. But Braid......I found Braid to be more of a puzzle than a platformer. In this game you have the ability to reverse time (to rewind). The game has several parts and every part has different rules (like some objects imune to time reversal or time flowing when the characters moves or a ring which can be dropped anywhere and can slow down time and everything around him, including enemies, bullets, moving platfoms etc.

Don't let the platform aspect deceive you.

I highly recommend this game, too bad it's not on GOG.

EDIT: Thank you for contacting Trine developers and posting their answer.

Yeah, I'll give those two games a whirl sometime if I score them on a promo sale or giveaway or something. They look worthy of giving them some time and chance.

Yeah, it was nice to hear back from Frozenbyte so fast, it was like an hour or so tops.

What a wonderful response. Thanks for asking the question and posting the response here.
Trine 1 only has local multiplayer correct? (I remember having to have to use a 3rd party program, to fake the "local", was it hamachi, I forget)

Maybe this will finally add the online component.

I believe you're correct on all counts.
Frozenbyte are pretty great. I loved the Trine games and had plenty of fun with the two Shadowgrounds games too. And they always give you really good value for your money.
