<3 Pelican so much. I'm seeing them in about a week and a half.
Ah, the music genre discussion. The old story: What is punk music, is that still rock music? Dont't forget Post-Punk and of course it's revival, Post-Punk Revival. It's the old problem, the idea to categorize somehting that would fit in many old drawers, so you need a new one.Funny thing is, you know that is at some point stupid, but it's also helpful if you're looking for similar music to get at least an idea.

But alright, Post-Rock, a very wide genre which includes electronical ambient music but also heavy guitar in the spirit of drone-music or shoegazing. I must say I really enjoyed and still enjoy the last catetgory (focus on guitars) - especially bands like Mogwai, Russian Circles, Mono, Long Distance Calling (german band) or 65DaysOfStatic. But lately I got mostly tired of it, but that's maybe I've listened too much of it in the last years.

EdIt: Oh, it's the genre ting is so confusing that in the last paragraph I first wrote Post-Punk instead of Post-Rock. Too much post for me ;-)

Emob78: Post-rock. What word-speak nonsense. Anyone you know ever refer to Beethoven as pre-rock? Or Lawrence Welk as post-polka? Jesus fucking post-christ.

Try enjoying music rather than find a new hipster way of classifying it while reorganizing your vinyl collection that you're so proud of... but never actually listen to.

tinyE: That's just the kind of stupid post I'd expect from a "Post Punk Industrialist Neo Glam Quasi-Classical Pre-Birth Rock" fan!
I resent that title. It's actually 'post industrialist with a pop influence grinding out metal riffs on my ska blaster drum machine with hip hop beats and operatic backing vocals sung by the boys town choir... who all love disco.'

Yes, the categorizing of music is OCD as hell. And since music is a form of collective entertainment, that means we demand consensus, as we seem to do in all things. And that means that some nerd at a university is going to sit down and methodically analyze every form of music ever written or played by human beings. Each one will gets its own number and designated phraseology. Then later on while debating the semantics of modern music on an internet forum, someone will say, 'that's what X is because it's been described that way by professionals. It has its own wikipedia entry for crying out loud.' No one will ever stop to find that damn nerd who was the one given the huge grant to sit at a lab computer and come up with all the shit himself.

Oh, Urban Dance-Squad.
I saw them open up for Living Color in '93.
Post-rock is not a term I'm much familiar with I must say, so I checked on your link.
Here Slint were mentioned as one of the band that "gave birth to post-rock".
Now, I may not know much on the genre but Slint's Spiderland is an amazing album that you should definitely listen to.
Besides being an extremely original work, it's also very easily accessible to anyone (no cacophonous sounds à la Red Crayola here) so there's no reason not to give it a try :)
I've listened to Balmorhea's album All is Wild, All is Silent several times in a row now and really have come to love the work, so thanks akhliber. Here's another track, haunting and ethereal:
