ne_zavarj: Can you explain what's so special about Steam achievements ? Beside the size of the e-penis ?
avatar
Tormentfan: This is exactly how I feel about achievements.. when you get 'achievements' for starting the game, and following a linear path, you can pretty much be assured that achievements add nothing of worth to a games value.
Why? because you can get free games with the achievements during certain holiday steam sales. I won 2 free games during the last winter steam sale for just playing the games and getting the achievements. I got 2 free games during the last summer sale also after collecting tickets that you received from making achievements. I am just like you guys, Achievements are generally worthless, but sometimes on steam they are very much worth it.
Just heard about this game today. Looks neat and I think this is the first dungeon crawler with mostly non-human races?

Anyway, question! I've never preordered here before, so if I preorder, when do I get charged? The day I preorder or when the game comes out.

Thanks!

Ash360: Might it not be the other way around, or at least go both ways? I suspect more people might know about and frequent gog than the developers blog.
Maybe... the initial setup however was more fair: order from us or Steam and get the achievements version or order from GOG and get the DRM free version.
Now they have made both Steam and GOG offers subpar, less than 24 hours from the pre-orders start... not exactly the nicest way to do business with DD stores (and since Steam hasn't started preorders, it hurts less them and GOG more)

Tough luck for GOG. Unless they start strong-arming indie devs into not offering DRM-free versions themselves (which would be kinda nasty and not their style, even IF they could pull it off), this will happen quite a lot. Many the developers who currently sell direct as well as on Steam offer the same kind of setup (SpaceChem too, BTW). And why shouldn't they? It's their game and as long as Steam is nice enough to offer this possibillity they should take advantage of it.
How are there 24 user ratings for a pre-order?

Well, for DRM-free version I'm still choosing GOG - why? I predict GOG will last longer than developer's page to download the game in distant future ;)
Im wondering why people are preordering the version that gives u Steam key. Whats the point?.

The ability to add the game to your Steam library of games, an additional platform to download the game from and ACHIEVEMENTS!

Just the question I was going to ask. Have people bought this elsewhere already? How have they played it?

As this is an option on developer's page - I think people will like to support developers directly (they are still getting DRM free installer + Steam key, so they do not need buy that for Steam)

MIK0: This is what a developer replied about a user asking info about the standalone installer that come with the game bought on the official site.
"It's the same version GOG sells."

So what's the point in buying it on GOG if the other one is the same plus steam key plus more money to developer? They aren't doing a good publicity to GOG.

OK, fair enough, but now that you DO know about the dev and game, why not just go buy from the dev instead of paying a middleman and cutting some profit from the people who actually deserve it.

I'm all for paying for due effort, and when gog rewrite an installer for current OS's that's great and they deserve every penny.. but when they do nothing except what amounts to a few posts I don't see that they are due any profit from it.

Go buy it from the dev...

this looked cool when I read about it on RPS, that is till I got to the part about it being a steam release and I said "Oh well, not like I'm not used to it" and walked off with a *shrug*

now that it's coming out here it's already preordered. score one more "sale that wouldn't have happened if it had been exclusively released on Steam" for GOG and I'm happy that more and more developers are recognizing that there is -also- a PC market outside of Gabe's customer milking machine.

(P.S. I also would have bought this elsewhere in a steam free form, I love GOG but it's not like I'm only buying this because it's a GOG release)

*edit*

P.P.S. holy hell, where did all the butt hurt Steam addicts come from?!?! sure, there are plenty of people who regularly frequent GOG and support steam, but this is more like reading a post on RPS than your standard "steam hate Vs steam love" gog thread.

I honestly didn't know that the developer was selling a version of the game directly, and normally I tend to buy direct to support the makers, but in all honesty I still would buy from GOG even if I hadn't already as I find supporting GOG's opening shot into mainstream game sales (while still maintaining it's DRM free policy) to be a more worthy cause than shelling an extra buck or two in the developer's direction.

.... 'sides, being GOG's poster child for it's business expansion is probably has probably doubled the sales they were going to make and catapulted the title into the limelight of the entire market instead of just being a high quality niche title that most people thinks looks cool but would never buy unless it was basically free over the steam summer sale.

Have never heard of this but when I saw what it IS, I preordered instantly.

I miss the old days of Xeen and stuff and cannot believe its taken this long to make a "new one".

INSTABUY!
Nice! I can't wait to play it!
I've been following this forever... i almost didnt go to work to stare at the gamepage

YOU know what we want <3
