paulcmnt: I really hope this forum won't become full of fanboys and will continue to be a place where you can find responsible customers. I'd agree with a slight price increase for the goodies and the DRM-free game, but AC1 costs 53% more on GOG compared to Steam. That is a HUGE increase. I don't think people should buy it just because of the GOG label.
avatar
wodmarach: just to note the 11 track "official" AC soundtrack is currently $9-11 on most places that sell it
Do you remember the promises GOG made at first (and is still making)? One of them was DRM-free games, the most important one (imo) and one which they still very successfully deliver on.

Another was _free_ goodies with every game; they are starting to loose their grip on that, but they are still advertising it as if nothing is happening.
The devaluing of games is really sad to see.

cpubasic13: I'm looking at the Steam page for Assassin's Creed 1 and it is the same price as it is here on GoG, but lacks soundtrack, artbook, and those extra goodies.
avatar
JMich: In Europe it's 9.99 euros, so most people assumed it would be the same price in dollars for the US. It is cheaper in Europe on Steam than on GOG.com, but it lacks the extras.
The GOG extras are supposed to be "free goodies", remember?

Free as in "GOG.com will not charge you for them" or free as in "You can legally get them off the net for free"? Cause while avatars and wallpapers may fall in the second category, I don't think the soundtrack does. (Speaking for AC here, not for every game).

Yes you get : Assassin's Creed (Original Game Soundtrack) £8.99 for free , yey bad bad GOG how can they do that to you... maybe they should give you free game with every purchase? With current promo AC1 is cheaper than Steam both for US/EU so stop complaining about it :)

And yes the soundtrack deserves every single cent for it... Jesper Kyd made an amazing soundtrack like always.

Those two should be equivalent in this case. Whatever GOG meant by "free" it certainly did not meant "we'll charge you for it if need be".

It's not free if the price of the soundtrack is hidden in the price of the game. The GOG version of AC1 is 53% more expensive than on Steam.

If you live outside the EU they are free the EU(and UK) have the cheapest price for AC in the US it's 19.99 so while our price is slightly higher (not the 53% you claimed you need to convert into $ first for the uk it's less than 2 quid more!) we get a metric crap tonne of extras including the soundtracks that would cost us more than we paid anywhere else.
avatar
JudasIscariot: I don't care about the prices really. It's the fact that I don't have to install anything extra just to play my games. I just install and play...like in the old days.
avatar
SimonG: "unable to start not enough EMS" "Do you want to create a boot disk?" "Insert disk 7 of 14"

That were the old days...
I meant the slightly better old days when we got CD-ROMs and such :D.

You should've seen my config/autoexec files when I tried running Ultima 7 :D "Remove everything including the CD-ROM!"

FFS Stop comparing Steam to GOG:
http://www.steamprices.com/us/app/15100/assassins-creed-directors-cut-edition
USD $ 19.99
EUR € 9.99 » USD $ 13.05

What exactly you can't understand? AC1 till 12th of April 9.99$ on GOG so where is the 53% overpricing...

And maybe my calculator is wrong, but 13.05$ for AC1 on steam + 14.25$(£8.99 OST on iTunes) is steal over the price that GOG sells it :)

spinefarm: AC1 till 12th of April 9.99$ on GOG so where is the 53% overpricing...
Added percentage *relative to Steam* is given by (19.99 - 13.05) / 13.05 * 100, which is 53 percent. Price reduction percentage, *relative to GOG* is (19.99 - 13.05) / 19.99 * 100, which is 35 percent.

Those were originally supposed to be free, so the argument is moot. I don't think they should have included it.

No, it's not. It's been one of GOG's weaknesses for some time now, but we're getting to the point where angry and blind Holy Knights Templar of GOG will swarm at you for saying so, because their beloved store is of course absolutely perfect, even though the best argument they can come up with is the No true Scotsman fallacy.

I'm a customer first, and if I see a better offer elsewhere, I'll shop there. But because I honestly like GOG and want it to succeed, I think it's right to give them feedback on why they are losing my custom. That's all there is to it, fanboys, like it or not.

Don't compare different regions. GOG policy is to sell games on equal prices for everybody. In that diff between GOG & Steam for EU users you get a 15$ OST... it seems fair.

The OST never ment to be free and it is not free anywhere else(Pirate Bay don't counts).

Ok go buy the stuff in the AC (GOG edition) separetly and come back here with the prices :)
But the normal prices, not promo shits.
Cause at the moment AC1 is cheaper than Steam here. both for US/EU till 12th of April...what you see bad about it?

"promo shits"? That's supposed to be an argument?

I'm not interested in talking to you at all, but I'll tell you this before I leave this thread: in the current market conditions, AC is not worth $10. End of story.

I had not considered that, I was a bit hasty. People living in the US have nothing to complain about, it seems.

I guess you could argue GOG got the best deal they reasonably could, all things considered (Heroes V and the soundtrack). But that is only if they were unable to convince Ubisoft to reduce the price and instead had to convince them to include the soundtrack and the promo (notice the "ïf").

But I am interested in neither the soundtrack nor Heroes V, so I will not buy AC1. At least not until it goes on a big sale where I don't feel like I'm paying for something that doesn't interest me.
