Definitely a title that deserves to be on GOG.
I still have many fond memories of playing on the Strategy First servers. It's a shame multiplayer died so quickly. During research for an article I'm writing, I noticed the second hanzi in the Chinese title (秦殇, qín shâng, meaning "Qin War") can mean as "die young". The Qin Dynasty only lasted 15 years, and Prince of Qin itself was rather short-lived (especially when it comes to English MP). It's almost a divination.
I imagine some of you played MP as well; if so, you may remember the name Zhou Wan. My relatives and I ran a sporadic semi-dedicated server over the years called Prince of Qin Legends (as well as others, I'm sure) after SF shut down its PoQ operations. Good times.
It's amazing to me how quickly Object Software developed the game. It took about two years, and the majority of the assets were still in use years later in World of Qin 1 (aka Prince of Qin Online or Tianjiao). WoQ 2 never captured the same vibe that PoQ did, and I think utilizing actual 3D was a mistake. Seal of Evil's art suffered from this as well. The characters were less fluid, more blocky. The background art and the music, however, were always stellar.
For all of my obsession with the game, it is ironic that I never completed SP. I got lost several times and suffered from numerous bugs. Eventually I hope to do an LP and share a lot of my history with and insight of the game.
Also, I've been reverse-engineering the game over the years and hope to remake it some day. In a perfect world, OS would just hand over the code so I could modernize it — but alas, such is not our world.
