I have made a compilation mod with the darkplaces engine with various resources from "Quake: Epsilon Build", "Quake HD" and some resources I have been collecting over the past few years. I call it "Quake HD Remix"

It has just been completed yesterday and is going to my beta tester in a couple of days. then I will upload it to the net and post a link for retro gamers around the world.

It needs a high end rig to run as is but contains a patch removing parallax bump mapping which allows mid-range rigs to run it.

I have included two screenshots. One of the Slipgate Complex and one of close up to the wall to demonstrate the bump-mapping.

The mod is over 6.5Gb in size.

I am new to these forums (made first post earlier 2day) and am not sure if this is the right place for this thread. if it is not the right place I would appreciate someone sending me a link to the right place.

Peace out retro gamers.

That's nice and all but you might want to post this in forums like steam where they actually sell quake 1 . The forums there are filled with way to upgrade quake 1 to modern graphics. You might have quicker feedback there

Looks sweet. If I'd have a machine capable of running this, I'd sure enjoy a Quake revisit in HD!

Come on, this is still a good place for this. I bet there's quite a few Quake enthusiasts around here. I certainly am (as a matter of fact I played through the first chapter again just a few weeks ago).

The screenshots look decent but one question: are any of the models or any of the geometry altered or is this only new effects and textures? Just wondering.

Since Quake isn't sold on GOG (at least not yet) there's no specific subforums for it here so yeah, the general discussion is the right place for that.

the only High poly models available are The Shambler, The Shalrath and The Fiend. when more High poly models appear on the net I will download them and compile them into the pk3's. the old models however have 2k skins.

Edit: and all the ammo and items have been replaced with High poly models. (havent slept in days due to work on mod so a bit 4getfull) and the flames in base game AND both mission packs have been replaced with groovy particle effects with high poly torch bases, not to mention Real Time lighting with soft shadows! :)

you can use the patch to remove Parallax mapping and lower details in the Lighting and Effects sections in the menu to improve performance drasticly. :D

Here is a link for a test video from my FB page (Parallax removed cause MY rig dosent like it) near the start there are some slightly yellow textures. I found out after posting vid if texture compression is enabled they look right again.

Vid is set to public visibility.

Nice, brings back memories of the fun I had back when. This sure is neat, but even without the visual overhaul, Quake is just straightforward FPS goodness. Congrats for completing this, applause for the dedication.
i am all for trying this out but my laptop does not fall in the category of high end , can we adjust the settings greatly ?

my questions
- does the mod integrate all the content of quake 1 or just the base game ?
- is music included ?
- i had tried one of the other mods called quake 1 ultimate patch that used the darkplaces mod but it had certain weapon glitches, anything such in this ?

Yes. you can dramaticly adjust the settings. First it comes with a patch that removes Parallax mapping. also you can lower/disable settings in both the lighting and effects sections in the menu.

It has full support for BOTH Mission packs and features the Original Quake 1 CD music for the base game and the music from Epsilon build for the mission packs (I have'nt been able to find full ISO's of the mission packs to rip the music from anywhere..) :'(

The new High-poly weapons do not glitch and when I get my report from my Beta Tester I will know what glitching needs to be fixed. it is ver1.0 and will be updated as more authors create public domain resources.

I currently use the Epsilon Build of Dark Places and like it. I turned off some things like mirror reflections to improve performance and I disabled souls (because they were annoying).

Your screenshots look pretty good. I play without the hud though.

Do you disable Parallax mapping using this console command:
r_glsl_offsetmapping_scale 0

Isn't that off by default already? Maybe I'm mistaken.

the game comes with paralax mapping on. there are 2 patch folders. one to disable Parallax, and one to re-enable it.

I did this for users that don't know how to use Cvars so it is more user-friendly
