No one wants to be a bad person.

Always Sometimes Monsters, a unique modern adventure title focusing on real world problems and traps of social life rather than fantasy and lighthearted escapism, is available 10% off on GOG.com. That's only $8.99 for the first week.

Most games aim to take us as far from everyday problems as possible and set us on fantastic quests to perform in the realm of imagination. Yet the real life and interaction with other people tends to be much more challenging, and the obstacles we find on our way every day are much more difficult. In most games, there's always a good way out of most situations. It's the reality that often drops impossible choices on us. This is a game about such choices. Here, out of money and out of luck, you find yourself heart broken and on the verge of collapse. You set out on the open road on a mission to win back the love of your life. The story from there is up to you. Can your life be salvaged, or are we always sometimes monsters?

Always Sometimes Monsters is a title designed for a mature gamer who isn't afraid to face his fears and problems that reflect what we're dealing with each day in the real world. You'll be faced with racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, mental health, sexual assault, child abuse, animal abuse, drug abuse, and suicide. Every choice you make affects the virtual (yet lifelike) world and affects the protagonist and the people you'll meet on your path. You may find yourself struggling with every decision, but the outcome--whatever it might turn out to be--has the potential to feel like katharsis.

If you think you're up for the challenge that seems far from everything you've faced so far in the gaming realm, make sure to sign up for the original experience that is Always Sometimes Monsters, a Devolver Digital release, for only $8.99 on GOG.com. The 10% off release discount offer lasts until Wednesday, May 28, at 4:00PM GMT.
Surprise wednesday release is always welcome, this game certainly piqued my curiosity. I wonder though if this means there will be only a single release tomorrow.
So much abuse. Mhmmm.

Sounds interesting enough, will get it at some point, maybe.
Insta-....wishlist. I'm flat broke until I get paid Friday, but it'll be an insta-buy then. Looks awesome.

Looks pretty interesting
Looks pretty good and interesting, to the wishlist it goes!
Looks like To The Moon 2.
Didn't like to The Moon 1.

JMich: Bloodnet? Flatout 2? Stalker? SiN? Blackguards? Red Faction? Guild 2? Rex Nebular? Risen? Redline? Sudeki? F-117?
None of the above are adventure games, and most (if not all) were welcomed by the community. Tell me if you want a link to the list of releases, just to refresh your memory, even though it is perfectly acceptable to not have found any of the releases interesting.

Matruchus: Im sorry but all of the above games listed fall in to the boring category for me. All the games in last months are without exception rpg, adventure, plaformer + here and there action titles.
You can't expect GOG to blow you away, every month with awesome strategy games. Have some patience, my penguin and I'm sure, more strategy games from the good old days will come.

Personally this game doesn't interest me. I don't consider playing a game that reminds me how shitty life is and how shitty most people are, entertaining. And the main character has to win back the love of his life? LOL So you have a play as a person with no self respect whatsoever? SHE LEFT HIM AND IS MARRYING ANOTHER GUY. The main character should just move on. I like games that let me escape from reality. If I want to play a game like Always Sometimes Monsters, all I have to do is step away from my laptop... But the more games the GOG catalog has for people to purchase, the merrier. :) Not to be entirely negative about the game, I find it really cool that the game has this feature.

"Choose from characters of different gender, race, and sexual preference"

It would be nice if more games did this.

I remember way back when when I wasn't an employee at GOG that there was a long spell of RTS games and such. All I can say in the matter is that there are cycles, sometimes we'll get a bunch of adventures in and sometimes we'll be swimming in RPGs :)

I did not say every month but if they wan't to compete with Steam or be it any other online store (Gamersgate, Green mangaming, Humblestore) that releases minimum 10 strategy games a month they need to get things moving slowly at least to get 2 games a month released in a genre. Tell me do you think the genre release difference for this year is fair - 10 games in strategy, 25 in adventure - hm. A well there is still Steam and at this point they will get my money instead of gog. I can't wait for gog anymore its gotten pretty obvious that they are abandoning pc classics.

So basically you are saying this year is rpg, platformer, adventure and action games 90%. And we did have this conversation before :) I know you don't talk much about releases. But do you know anything about Z coming to gog so I won't buy it on Steam instead of here when its released on 7th June.

If I do know anything, I unfortunately can't speak of it :/'

Well you should change that policy and get a real coming soon list as every other online store beside gog has. I really don't understand that. But thanks for the answer anyway.

JMich: Spellforce 2: Demons of the Past
Let's see how much enthusiasm there is in the user reviews for this game which was released several months ago... hmm, still nothing.

I have the original Spellforce on CD. I never manged to get into the game.

JMich: Deadlock
Both deadlock games are in my "buy on sale" list.

avatar
JMich: Doomdark's Revenge/The Guild 2
Might pick these up depending on how things go with Lords of Midnight/Guild Gold.

avatar
JMich: Banished
This one's on my "buy whenever I get the urge to play it, or whenever there's a good enough sale, whichever comes first" list. (If I didn't have a massive backlog I would have already bought this game.)

avatar
JMich: 7th Legion
Doesn't seem like a very good RTS. (And RTSes without speed control or issue-command-while-paused are pretty much automatic "do not buys" for me -- I generally don't even spend time considering an RTS unless I know it has one or both features.)

avatar
JMich: Braveland
1849
Unholy Heights
Not interested in such "toys".

avatar
JMich: Age of Wonders 3
Waiting for a sale to punish Triumph for not including a DRM-free multiplayer option (or for them to add a DRM-free MP option, whichever comes first).

avatar
JMich: F-117
The only sims that really interest me are "complex system" sims (worlds, empires, etc.) which make good environments for both strategy and RPG gaming (which I guess means they're not really classified as "sims").

So out of those 12 games, 0 bought at this point, 5 that I am somewhat interested in and 1 that I was very interested in (but Triumph decided to throw cold water on that). So even though there are some games in there that I will likely eventually buy...

tfishell: Can we expect GOG to stay competitive if they are unable to bring more highly-desired or exciting games?
...I can also certainly sympathize with the idea that there is a lack of games to get excited about on gog lately.

avatar
Matruchus: (700 games only in the strategy category)
Don't be tempting me like that!

Matruchus: A well there is still Steam and at this point they will get my money instead of gog.
Can't say I'm ready to go DRM, but I did break my streak of 200+ consecutive games bought exclusively on gog in order to pick up Heroes of a Broken Land. If publishers offer DRM free options on games I really want to try, and gog doesn't have them on board yet...

My question there would be,how many of those "10 strategy games a month" are DRM free? Because for me the other ones don't count (and in fact are a negative if they make it harder to browse the given store for the DRM free ones, especially when as seems to be the case for some stores they won't even tell you which games are DRM free much less provide a filter for it -- gamersgate does provide a DRM filter but it's not exactly reliable because it includes "DRM free" expansions that require a base game which has DRM).
